Residential Electrician

Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Residential Electricians with various levels of experience to join our team. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain additional hands-on experience in the electrical trade while working under the guidance of experienced electricians. The Residential Electrician will assist in various electrical tasks, ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and safety standards. Duties • In general, the Residential Electrician is responsible for mounting boxes, drilling holes, pulling Romex, making up switch and receptacle boxes, installing meters and load centers and making up panels. Additional duties include installing switches and receptacles and hanging light fixtures. • Less experienced electricians will perform tasks under the supervision of a Journeyman or Master Electrician installing the work, acquiring the skills and knowledge of the trade and become a Journeyman Electrician • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine the layout of electrical systems. • Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for various electrical tasks. • Help troubleshoot electrical issues and perform basic repairs under supervision. • Learn to work with high voltage systems while adhering to safety protocols. • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored. • Participate in training sessions to enhance skills related to electrical work, including NEC regulations. Qualifications • A minimum of 6-months of prior experience as a residential electrician is required. • Familiarity of electrical principles and terminology is a plus. • Familiarity with NEC regulations is a plus. • Ability to read blueprints and schematics is a plus. • Experience using hand tools and power tools safely. Requirements • Strong willingness to learn from experienced electricians and take direction. • Be detail-oriented, have a good attitude & willing to work with Co-workers and job site staff. • Clean Cut, presentable, willing to show up on time. • Job requires working in all elements. This depends on job location and time of year (heat, cold, rain, snow) • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require lifting a minimum of 50 pounds on a continuing basis, standing for long periods, working overhead for long periods of time, and working in various environments. • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead. • Work in restricted areas (electrical switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics). • Wear the provided personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Assistant Professor of Electrical Technology

Role: Garden City Community College is a vibrant and dynamic community college located in the heart of the rural Southwest Kansas high plains region. Officially designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the College serves a student population which reflects the area’s rich diversity. The College serves approximately 2,000 students across multiple populations including on-campus, online, and area high schools and has a history of strong program options in both transfer and technical education. The College is located in Garden City, a community with a recent history of robust population growth. Garden City has many amenities including arts and culture, plentiful shopping, and daily jet service to Dallas. Garden City Community College’s Technical Education and Workforce Development Division seeks a faculty member to develop and lead a program in Electrical Technology, aligned closely with the college’s Construction Technology and Industrial Machine Mechanic program. This faculty position requires a passion for sharing the opportunities skilled trades provide for students and have an enthusiasm for working with students of all skill levels, ages, and experiences. The position will teach topics such as electrical theory; print reading; residential, commercial, and industrial wiring methods; and safety and electrical codes in both laboratory and lecture settings. The teaching assignment may include daytime, evening, weekend, and/or hybrid online instruction. The typical teaching load is 5/5 or 30 credit hours per year. This is a tenure track, full-time (172-day) faculty position covered by the Negotiated Agreement. Supervision is provided by an Assistant Dean, the Dean of Technical Education, and the Vice President for Instructional Services. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: • Work with Construction Technology and Industrial Machine Mechanic faculty and Technical Education administration to develop a program (learning outcomes, courses, program outcomes, etc.) that meet the Kansas Board of Regents program alignment in Electrical Technology. • Teaching assigned day, evening, and/or weekend courses using established standards and course syllabi. • Develop and continually enhance robust skills in best practices for teaching and learning. The college provides financial support and compensation incentives for professional development in teaching and learning and subject matter areas. • Remaining current in subject matter and in the techniques most effective to promote student learning including developing strategies for the future. • Providing individual and group facilitation of learning, diagnostic assessment of students, and identification of appropriate learning materials. • Participating in course and curriculum design, student advisement, program review, advisory council, and division activities as required to maintain and improve the learning program. • Participate robustly in the faculty job expectations—Appendix A of the Negotiated Agreement • Demonstrating initiative and actively recruiting students for the program. • Participating in staff and college meetings and contributing through appropriate committee assignments. • Performing other relevant tasks as assigned.
