Electrical Maintenance Technician

General Description The Electrical Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical components within asphalt plants and aggregate crushing facilities. Key Duties • Installation, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC’s, HMI interfaces, motors, drives, other electrical components. • Test and repair of various electrical equipment. • Assist in facility startup and new equipment installations. • Involvement in the planning and execution of new wiring installations or upgrades. • Work with facility staff and mechanical department to create more operator friendly and robust systems. • Ability to effectively work within and maintain company safety standards and policies. • Other duties as assigned Qualification Requirements • General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. This position is not typically an entry-level role as it requires basic electrical knowledge. • * Minimum of one (13) to three (3) years of experience troubleshooting electrical/mechanical systems is required. • Must have a safety and quality focused mindset. • Journeyman or master electrician license is preferred. • Must be familiar with and understand National Electric Code standards. • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment. • Willingness to learn new processes and ability to teach facility personnel. • Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an Electrical Maintenance Technician to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • * Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. • Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb. • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner. • Exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise. • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes in varying weather conditions. • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, based on project need(s) and demand(s). • Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an Electrical Maintenance Technician encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. • * Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. • Must be able to work flexible and long hours as required. • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site. • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt. This position is ideal for professionals with hands-on experience in electrical installation who are ready to work in a team environment and mentor others while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship. Typical Duties include but are not limited to: • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. • Prepare sketches showing locations of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, insuring that completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring. • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit, using such tools as saws, pipe threading machine, and conduit bender. • Pull wiring through conduit assisted by a helper or craft. • Splice wires by stripping insulation away from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools. • Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels. • Connect power cables to equipment such as electric motors, and installs grounding leads. • Test continuity of circuitry of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery, and buzzer, and oscilloscope. • Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. • May supervise or repair faulty equipment or systems.
