Utility Distr Electrician

Department FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA) Department Information Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within CPF, Facility Operations maintains our physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services all with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus. Job Summary • Completes repairs and installations to utility distribution systems, such as circuits, circuit breakers, transformers, emergency generators, and sub-systems. Utilizes skills such as cable pulling and splicing, circuit switching procedures, high-pot testing, and trouble shooting. Distribution systems include 12,470 volt and 5,000 volt systems. • Installs, connects, and maintains campus building transformers. Assists contractors and Facility Operations employees with power outages and testing. Switches off/on high voltage circuits. • Performs emergency repair of damaged circuits. Maintains emergency campus generators by performing work such as testing, fueling, repairing, and maintaining campus building generators and oversees repair and maintenance of transfer switches. • Performs maintenance work related to campus lighting systems, such as changing light ballasts, re-lamping burned-out elements, troubleshooting faults in lighting circuits, and installing and maintaining circuit timers. • Participates in mandatory training sessions related to high voltage utility systems. Acts as mentor and conduct on-the-job training of lesser-skilled personnel. Performs other utilities related work or general maintenance work as needed. • Responds to emergency situations immediately and works quickly to correct the problem(s). • Performs other utilities-related work or general maintenance work as needed. • Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed.
