Electrical Designer

Job Type Full-time Description The Electrical Designer is responsible for creating detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and related documentation for custom industrial thermal processing equipment. This position supports electrical engineers and senior designers by translating design intent into accurate, complete electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to established standards, and effective collaboration with engineering and production teams. While highly experienced, this is a non-supervisory contributor role without formal project management responsibilities. Requirements Principal Accountabilities: • Create and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layout drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for Alkar-manufactured equipment. • Interpret redlines, design notes, and verbal instructions to accurately produce drawings that reflect project specifications. • Apply standard design rules and component specifications defined by engineering leadership. • Ensure all work adheres to applicable codes and internal standards (UL, CE, NFPA 79, etc.). • Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical designers, and project managers to clarify requirements and resolve design issues • Organize and maintain drawing files, version control, and revision history within the company's documentation system. • Support the shop floor with questions during panel builds and final assembly as needed. • Participate in occasional design reviews and lessons learned discussions. • Performs additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: • Associate degree in Electrical Design, Drafting, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. • 2+ years of experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software in a manufacturing or industrial setting. • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts. • Familiarity with common electrical components (relays, VFDs, circuit breakers, PLCs, etc.). • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate documentation. • Ability to manage time effectively and work within defined schedules. • Experience with industrial control systems, UL 508A, or CE electrical design standards. • Exposure to programmable controller (PLC) systems, although programming is not required. • Experience using ERP systems to generate or modify BOMs. Work Environment & Physical Requirements • Primarily office-based, with occasional work on the shop floor or at customer sites • Environments may include temperature-controlled areas (heated or refrigerated) • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required • Occasional travel to customer sites may be required for design validation or commissioning support.
