BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • 5 years minimum experience in construction or mechanical field • Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving or holding in one position • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet) • Ability to quickly adjust machine controls to exact positions • Ability to imagine how something will look after movement or rearrangement • Ability to quickly move hands or arms to grasp objects Responsibilities: • FOLLOW DIRECTIONS UNDER INTERMITTENT SUPERVISION • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits • Recognize, set up, and operate common tools in the welding trade • Select and install torches and filler rods according to specifications • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly • Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment using flux-cored arc • Detect faulty equipment operation or defective materials and notify supervisors • Use fire suppression methods in emergencies • Gouge metals using air-arc gouging process • Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as they arise WORKING ENVIRONMENT: • Fast-paced work environment Preferred Qualifications: • 3+ years experience preferred • Prior shipyard experience a plus • Fabrication experience in a Military environment a plus Work Hours: • Full-Time
