Summary: Welds together metal components for THI products and performs the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Use GMAW (MIG) to weld THI products. • Obtains specified welding wire type and wire size(s) for given welding machine and welding applications. • Changes out wire diameters out of the welding machines. • Connects welding cables to welding unit and production parts. • Adjusts welding power supply to the correct amperage, voltage, wire feed speed, and/or pulse settings, as specified by Welding Engineering and other welding documentation. • Use correct welding techniques to achieve correct welding travel speed of the torch along weld joint, maintaining length of arc, torch angle, and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and good bead profile. • Welds in flat, horizontal, and/or vertical positions. • Examines weld bead size and other critical characteristics. • Cleans, degreases, and wire wheels weld joints, work pieces, and production parts. • Repairs parts as needed. • Prepares parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces. • Cleans off excess weld, slag, and spatter. • Preheats production parts with hand torch to the correct preheating temperatures, as determined by production documents. • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture. • Tacks assemblies together. • Properly tie-in weld pass/bead starts-and-stops. Education/Training/Experience: • High School diploma/GED or technical school; or one to two years of related experience. • Able to successfully complete 1G (Flat) 1" groove GMAW ( MIG ) welder qualification plate test pre-employment. • Has 6 months or more experience as a welder or welder training. • Ability to follow safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Skills: • Demonstrates math proficiency as it relates to this job. • Demonstrates GMAW (MIG) welding proficiency.
