MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER The Design Engineer will navigate complex nuclear facility projects through research, analysis, and design of custom, specialized glovebox and hot cell systems, shielding designs, and remote handling equipment. This position will become familiar with and comply with pharmaceutical and nuclear industry standards including cGMP manufacturing, NQA-1 and NRC regulations, ASME codes, and DOE requirements. Overview • Creates and manages new custom design features to satisfy customer order requirements • Perform ASME calculations to specific design qualifications. • Perform HVAC calculations to specific design qualifications. • Interacts with outside vendors and internal purchasing agents to ensure that purchased materials meet customer specifications and “fit and finish” expectations • Identifies, documents and implements internal department quality and process improvements • Reviews engineering documentation, including pilot run support, with production representatives • Responds to product fabrication and assembly issues relating to design, process or material quality • Suggests changes to standard designs based on custom design needs and market trends • Analyzes standard and custom designs for design and manufacturability optimization • Identifies possible material substitutions for production or purchasing • Verifies and seeks approval for design deviations in production from development and structural engineering group • Takes the lead inside the group for cost savings projects relative to design, material or process • Assists CAD technicians with documentation standards • Acts as primary back-up representative/meeting delegate for engineering supervisor • Actively participates in training and mentoring of newer departmental associates • Has the ability to use Inventor 3D modeling and 2D AutoCAD • Performs other job-related duties as assigned • At times traveling is required. Education/Experience • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field • 2 years engineering/manufacturing experience preferred Technical Skills • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) (and systems used by DEC mechanical engineering) • Experience with CAD/CAE, FEA, CFD and multiphysics applications • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills Certifications/Clearances • Eligibility for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls and Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for Safeguards Industry Specific Knowledge • Understanding of radiopharmaceutical manufacturing environments • Familiarity with materials suitable for radiation environments • Knowledge of glove box or hot cell ventilation, containment, and decontamination systems Software and Tools • Proficiency in Inventor 3D modeling and AutoCAD • ANSYS or similar FEA software for structural and thermal analysis • Knowledge of engineering and programming including electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and computer programming. • Proficient with computer design systems and Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
