Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer (Valdosta Mill)

We are seeking resumes for Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer (s) in our Valdosta, GA. Paper Mill. The Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating the planning, organizing, and completion of mill reliability programs within the area of assigned responsibility. The engineer will help to define and participate in the development of mechanical reliability programs to maintain and improve the reliability of machinery in the mill. This includes providing technical direction, assistance, and solutions to maintenance and operating personnel. Principle Accountabilities: Responsible for managing all phases of developing key maintenance programs from conception through final implementation. Will work with key maintenance and engineering personnel to support daily, monthly scheduled maintenance outages and annual outages jobs within the field of electrical maintenance and engineering. Some crossover activities to the mechanical maintenance programs will be required to deliver complete programs for all types of equipment. Will work with mechanical maintenance/engineering and operations personnel to complete electrical or mechanical maintenance projects and programs including necessary training, stocking of spare parts, preventive maintenance checklists, drawing creation and updates, etc. Supports the Mills goals for safety, environmental, and other areas of need. Focus on electrical equipment reliability. Manage equipment tracking and rebuild programs. Utilize predictive & preventative maintenance programs to identify and correct equipment issues. Input and update equipment information and documentation. Develop equipment manuals for precision inspection and maintenance of equipment. Manage area equipment PM and maintenance programs. Manage assigned work for monthly and annual outages. Assist with MS Project timelines for monthly an annual outages. Plan and execute capital projects for maintenance replacements of equipment. Effectively manage jobs for best result at lowest cost. Look for opportunities to solve issues, reduce cost, and improve planning performance. Solve problems utilizing the mill’s RCFA program. Effectively manages contractors for performing jobs. Performs other responsibilities as needed. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent education and experience required. A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering in the Pulp & Paper Industry. Experience using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and AutoCAD. Successful completion of drug screen required and authorization to work in the U.S. Preferred Qualifications Pulp & Paper industry experience preferred. The successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to be able to work well under pressure and within time constraints, multi-task, and build sound relationships with both internal and external customers Ability to exhibit excellent communication, analytical, organizational and computer skills. We are seeking resumes for Engineering Co-ops (Multiple Openings for Fall 2025) at our Valdosta, GA. Paper Mill. Responsible for providing process optimization and engineering support for the mill, which will include but not be limited to, compliance process coordination, lean projects, quality and product safety, and analytical and systems support. Develops and maintains methods for tracking and reducing operational costs. Coordinate the efforts of our outside resources to improve our operation by filtering and utilizing appropriate information. Conducts data analysis projects and uses data to make business decisions. Assignments may include some work at higher levels for training and development purposes. Successful candidates should have knowledge of pulp & paper making, waste-water treatment, and recovery operations. Interest/aptitude in controls. Basic Qualifications: Must be a student in good standing with the University, currently enrolled majoring in Mechanical or equivalent applicable Engineering program. The student will have either completed the Freshman year or will have completed the Freshman year when co-op begins and express interest in Pulp and Paper Manufacturing as a career. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required, you must pass a drug screen, and you must be eligible to work in the US full-time. Minimum Qualifications: • High School, GED Equivalent and/or Trade School. • Valid Driver’s license. • Must have a working knowledge of software programs including Procore, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. • Minimum of 8 years in the pipefitting/pipe fusion/mechanical trade and a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role. • Must have working knowledge of making and maintaining a schedule, project budgeting, materials coordination, and managing subs/internal craft labor. • Experience with various types of pipe and fitment techniques, including screw pipe, grooved, compression, fusion, glue, sweat, braze and weld, of various materials including steel, copper, plastic, fiberglass etc, with diameters ranging from ½” to 12” or greater. • Experience with sheet metal ductwork fabrication and installation. • Experience with electrical and controls installation (not required, but a plus). • Must be able to pass a government background check, drug test and other site pre-access requirements. • OSHA 30 training (not required, but a plus). • Position requires a willingness to travel to project locations when assigned to work on projects that require onsite presence for extended project durations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Extensive knowledge of pipefitting/mechanical skills within the commercial, institutional and/or industrial HVAC industry. • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, project specifications and equipment submittals. • Ability to take off, measure and order materials as needed for a complete project installation. • Knowledge of project management, construction process, schedule development, and budget acumen. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Thorough understanding of general project accounting. • Ability to be a safety leader to ensure site safety standards are met and all personnel perform project and job duties safely. Supervisory Responsibilities: The position is a Supervisory role and requires the Mechanical Field Supervisor to manage and supervise a crew of up to 8 HVAC Installers, Laborers, and Subcontractor personnel to effectively execute and complete contracted project scope safely and proficiently. Essential Functions: • Coordinate installation schedule with project manager, customer, and subcontractors. • Collaborate with project manager to produce weekly and monthly look ahead schedules to ensure material, equipment and manpower needs are identified and scheduled prior to start of work. • Create, utilize, and distribute Daily Reports to document project work. • Complete daily job safety briefings for site personnel at the beginning of each shift. This daily function also includes delegation of responsibilities to supervised staff. • Develop pipefitters, sheet metalworkers, HVAC technicians and apprentices in work-related areas to enhance work knowledge, productivity, and safety. • Reliable, self-motivated, and professional. • Maintain safe work environment by enforcing safety policies and procedures; enforce compliance with federal, state, and local jurisdiction requirements. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be physically capable of walking, climbing, kneeling, field of vision, balancing, hearing, and talking.
