We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Prep/Mechanical Manager to lead our autorack railcar repair operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and the safety and development of our associates. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, industry experience, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities: • Promote and exemplify the ethical practices and core values of the company in all aspects of the operation. • Make independent decisions on matters of significance, including hiring, associate development, promotions, and performance management. • Manage daily railcar repair operations, ensuring work aligns with customer expectations and industry standards. • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, FRA, EPA, and DOT regulations, as well as internal safety protocols and customer-specific requirements. • Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, or equipment damage; collaborate with safety personnel to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all incidents in accordance with company policy. • Establish clear safety objectives and monitor performance to meet or exceed those goals. • Identify and correct unsafe working conditions or behaviors; enforce all safety procedures and conduct routine inspections. • Ensure associates are properly trained on all relevant work instructions, SOPs, and quality procedures. • Support a culture of accountability and administer discipline when necessary to uphold standards. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in quality, process efficiency, and service delivery. • Maintain strong communication with customers to ensure expectations are met and relationships are sustained. • Monitor site performance against financial and productivity goals; implement corrective actions when targets are not met. • Identify and report on capital needs to support operational effectiveness and growth. • Provide guidance, performance feedback, and developmental goals for associates. • Manage staffing levels and oversee associate onboarding and ongoing training to ensure compliance and competency. Qualifications: • 5+ years of experience in railcar repair, industrial maintenance, or a similar heavy-industry environment. • Strong knowledge of AAR regulations and industry standards for autorack or railcar repair. • Proven leadership and team management skills in a safety-sensitive, regulated environment. • Solid understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and customer compliance requirements. • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational abilities. • Experience with incident investigation and corrective action planning. Requirements and Qualifications • 2-4 years in a similar Supervisor role is preferred. • Strong organizational and time management skills are required. • Detail oriented, with ability to multi-task, in a fast-paced work environment. • Training or experience in computer applications.
