This position will performs work associated with laboratory and/or research equipment installation, fabrication, maintenance, and/or repair. Essential Functions Installs, tests, repairs, upgrades and maintains equipment and facilities used in research and instruction. Schedules preventative maintenance and outages for equipment and facilities, while limiting downtime. Instructs and assists students and faculty in the proper use of research-related and/or instructional equipment and models while following safe operating procedures. Maintains inventory of replacement parts and maintenance supplies for all equipment and facilities. Assists with the design of prototype equipment, instruments, devices, components, and systems. Operates machinery and equipment associated with research and/or instruction. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Level I: Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a Technical, engineering, or scientific field related to laboratory equipment installation and maintenance with no experience. Level II: Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a Technical, engineering, or scientific field related to laboratory equipment installation and maintenance PLUS 2 years of experience. Level III : Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a Technical, engineering, or scientific field related to laboratory equipment installation and maintenance PLUS 4 years of experience. Level IV: Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a Technical, engineering, or scientific field related to laboratory equipment installation and maintenance PLUS 6 years of experience. Focus of Experience: Experience in the practices of assisting in engineering design and manufacturing. Substitutions allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience. See More Details >>JOB SUMMARY: The Sr. Mechanical Engineer leads research and design of components and mechanical systems for packaging electronic product assemblies used in harsh environments. Applications require knowledge of plastics, injection molding, surface design, displays, user interface, sealing techniques, IP ratings, thermal management and structural module design. SolidWorks & SolidWorks PDM preferred. • Strong mechanical aptitude, industrial design and problem-solving skills • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding and machining • Experience with 3D printing, machining tools, mills, and drill presses • Design For Manufacturing (DFM) and tolerance stack analysis • Knowledge in the selection and use of materials including plastics, steel, and aluminum. • Knowledge in standard drafting practices and the application of the ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerance standard or similar.
