Your Opportunity As an Entry Level Mechanical Designer /Engineer-in-Training, you will work with guidance and direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products for project applications, verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices. Your Key Responsibilities • With direction from a project manager and/or Professional Engineer Design, develop, and optimize mechanical and plumbing components and systems, ensuring adherence to engineering principles and industry standards. • Conduct basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials. • Perform Revit design for the mechanical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs. • Work with architectural, interior, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer /designer. • Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer /designer. • Perform basic calculations to analyze and design individual building mechanical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software. • Assist with engineering duties on projects of various complexity. • Assist with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions. • Perform other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff. Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. • Basic understanding of Revit and AutoCAD and their use as a drafting /design tool; proficiency a plus. • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs, and other similar material. • Ability to receive directions, follow the process, and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks • A proactive and inquisitive mindset, eager to learn and grow • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Familiarity with various construction delivery processes, such as Design-Build, is a plus. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering • Engineer-in-Training certification preferred. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Owns the mechanical project schedule and all manpower requirements and organizes, plans, and schedules the work. Reports directly to the General Superintendent. Works closely with the Project Engineer to provide weekly updates the project schedule. • Provides safety leadership, coaching, and role models quality craftsmanship in all disciplines of building construction. Nurtures an injury free environment, reviews subcontractor job hazard analyses, and leads regular safety job walks. • Plans and regularly reviews the project work with the Project Manager. • Leads weekly subcontractor foreman and safety meetings and attends all pre-bid conferences with subcontractors. • Participates in the subcontractor pre-qualification process with the Project Manager. • Participates in design reviews with the Engineer of Record to ensure local requirements are met. • Assists with identifying and resolving issues raised by the cross-functional engineering teams. • Drives the QAQC plan and supports the QAQC Project Manager throughout the construction process. • Executes the commissioning process and ensures all testing requirements are met through the sign off process. • Prepares detailed look ahead work schedules and keep them updated. • Expedites the delivery of materials and equipment for their timely on-site delivery. • Coordinates, directs, and monitors the activities of subcontractors and suppliers. Obtains, or sees that the subcontractors obtain, all necessary permits for temporary and construction purposes. • Coordinates the works on site with the activities of inspection agencies, as necessary. • Manages job site labor relations related to mechanical trade. • Understanding of construction documents, submittals, and technical documents. • Lead project meetings involving all project stakeholders (GC, owner, design team, multiple subcontractors, local AHJ) to coordinate/drive electrical construction activities. • Writing and publishing meeting minutes. • Review submittal information and coordinate between multiple submittals to ensure the accuracy and functionality of each component of the various electrical systems • Work schedule must be flexible to accommodate changing construction sequences as required to support the critical path schedule for the project. • Develop the resource manloader for the mechanical discipline and provide resource leveling when required by the project schedule. • Ability to coordinate mechanical systems with other disciplines within the overall project design. • Receiving and distributing RFI’s and change control documents • Verify all documentation is complete and equipment is ready for startup is construction complete and can be safely started. • Interface between GC area superintendents and multiple subcontractors to assist in coordinating Mechanical start-up and commissioning. • Organize and facilitate training of owner staff in the operations and maintenance of Mechanical systems Requirements • 10+ years’ experience as a Mechanical Superintendent in high tech facility building construction, data center experience preferred • Must be knowledgeable of Dry Mechanical Systems: HVAC, exhaust and air abatement systems, compressed air systems, utility gas systems, and associated Instrumentation & Controls. • Must be knowledgeable of Wet Mechanical Systems: Chillers, boilers, heat recovery systems, hydronic piping systems, fire sprinkler systems, fuel systems for emergency generators, and associated Instrumentation & Controls. • Experience organizing and reviewing detailed technical data. • Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in the field. • Skill in multi-tasking while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress. • Knowledgeable in design drawing and specification comprehension. • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method; familiar with CSI specification system for construction • Excellent leadership and communication skills, able to work in teams and matrix organization. • Experienced, committed, and stalwart leader of incident and injury free construction projects. • Proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with critical path method scheduling software such as Suretrack Project Manager and Primavera Project Planner (P6) experience.
