Mechanical Staff Engineer - Fort Collins, CO

CTL|Thompson, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Staff Engineer for full-time employment with our Fort Collins, CO office. The Mechanical Staff Engineer will work on product testing tasks involving laboratory and field test duties, and inspection of manufacturing facilities. Testing tasks vary per the product being tested. Design of fixturing and testing apparatus is necessary. Staff Engineers are paid an annual salary between $65,000.00 and $90,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses. Duties/Responsibilities: • Conduct product testing on UTM and Torsion bench, and proprietary testing systems. • Perform test scoping and quality evaluations of testing processes. • Design fixturing for oddly shaped product samples. • Fabricate fixturing or arrange fabrication as necessary. • Prepare project documents, testing reports and deliverables for clients. • Visit construction sites to perform validation testing on foundations. Understanding of conventional construction site behavior and safety is expected. • Develop engineering recommendations for review by a senior engineer. • Use relevant software to aid with project analysis. • Develop, fabricate, assemble, wire, program purpose built testing equipment as needed per testing program needs. • Operate within a ISO17025 laboratory quality system • Perform and review field and lab tests for use in engineering analysis and reports. • Perform visits to client manufacturing facilities to audit the quality systems and manufacturing processes in place. • Attending project meetings. • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software in a timely manner. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines. • Excellent knowledge of current code requirements as appropriate for position. • Experience with AutoCAD. • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Understanding of construction means and methods. • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills. • Ability to communicate and work well with a team. • Ability to operate a forklift and weld is preferred. Education and Experience: • B.S in mechanical or related engineering field. • EIT designation or ability to obtain it within 6 months for employees who have a qualifying engineering discipline degree. • 0-5 years of relative engineering experience. • At least 6 months of experience in an Engineering Field Technician position. Work Environment: This job operates in both an outside, field environment, and in an office setting. Regular work on computers while in the office. While working in the field, will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold and heat. Routinely uses PPE and other safety equipment. Work will primarily be project focused but client interactions will be required. Physical Requirements: • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. • Ability to walk around constructions sites with uneven and varying terrain. • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
