Mechanic I

The Mechanic I is responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of Macon-Bibb County automobiles and equipment. The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. • Inspects vehicles for safety: checking and adjusting lights, brakes, horn, steering, emission control, tires and other safety checks. • Services, changes and replaces oils; lubricates chassis; packs bearings; changes hydraulic fluids; and checks differential level. • Adjusts, repairs or replaces valves, carburetors, timing, clutch, brakes, emission system, linkages, and other adjustments. • Removes and replaces exhaust systems, shocks, stabilizers, brake shoes, bushings, gaskets, spark plugs, condensers, cables, wires, bulbs, and other devices. • Tests by use of instruments, road test, and mechanical equipment test devices. • Overhauls all types of brake systems, hydraulic systems, engines (gasoline and diesel), transmissions, front-ends, rear-ends, and other major repairs. • Services or repairs air conditioners, heaters, and related systems. • Makes minor electrical repairs. • Keeps shop equipment organized, clean, and maintained. The Mechanic I should possess a high school degree or GED and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in light equipment or related vehicle repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: • Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or obtain one within six months of hire. • Must be able to furnish own tools. • Must possess a valid driver’s license. The Mechanic I must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts: • Knowledge of the principles, materials, techniques, terminology, and tools of the trade. • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. • Ability to diagnose defects in equipment and related vehicles. • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public. • Skill in the use of the tools, machinery, and related equipment of the trade. We are seeking an experienced Process Specialist for our First Quality facility located in Macon, GA. This position is responsible for utilizing materials and manpower to efficiently produce a quality product during the manufacturing process. Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities: • Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times • Follows necessary GMP, FDA, and ISO regulations/guidelines • Updates line logbooks on machine operation and troubleshooting and sends shift updates outlining machine performance for the shift • Attends morning and evening shift change meetings to ensure effective handoff between shifts, and presents major items from the shift and ongoing issues • Maintains quality standards for the product being produced, supporting and leading proactive quality initiatives such as the Shift Process Cleaning documentation • Keeps the machine and surrounding areas clean at all times • Troubleshoots problems and performs adjustments to the machine • Properly trains machine operators, new line leaders, and other employees as required, and assists them in completing their Pay for Skills requirements • Inspects product from each line every shift to ensure high quality and performs additional quality checks as required • Utilizes Quality Window to review quality results and proactively address any outlying issues • Throughout the shift, proactively monitors all machine performance metrics versus objective and works with the machine team to resolve outstanding issues • Examines defects and scrap causes and takes appropriate corrective action when needed • Assists maintenance team and shift supervisor as needed • Properly completes all necessary paperwork including Work Orders and Work Requests • Manages lines through team approach principals and developing effective, self- sustaining work teams • Fill in as Platform Team Process Specialist, as needed Education and experience requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent (required) • 1-2 years of trade school or college and three years of manufacturing experience (preferred) • Experience troubleshooting high speed manufacturing equipment and monitoring machine performance • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate orally and in writing • Ability to work in and manage a team-oriented environment • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment • For internal applicants: Completion of Tech III Pay for Skills criteria in Production; advanced knowledge of technical processes, materials, and procedures; and completion of all required training and assessments What We Offer You We believe that by continuously improving the quality of our benefits, we can help to raise the quality of life for our team members and their families. An Automation Controls Engineer EIT will perform numerous Controls Engineering-related tasks, including but not limited to assisting with the assessment, development, installation, implementation, commissioning, monitoring, and maintenance of custom control systems in heavy industrial or manufacturing facilities.
