CNC Machinist - Evening Shift

What You'll Do: • Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to. • Check production schedule or shop request list and plan work tasks. • Study blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, setup requirements, and check for errors. • Accurately measures, numbers, identifies dimensions, and reference points on material for fabrication or other work cells for further machining as necessary. • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required. • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures. • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. • Inspect finished workpiece(s) to blueprints, quality standards, exact tolerances, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary. • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data to process steel (some pieces weighing as much as 300 lbs). • Consults with engineers, production management, programmers, or others to resolve machining or programming problems. • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to like-new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures. • Assist with directing work activities of any support staff as necessary (forklift operator, CNC machine trainees, and/or material handlers). • Miscellaneous other duties as directed by Machine Shop or Shift Lead. CNC Operator I

Job Details Job Location Yankton, SD Job Shift Day Shift Description Summary Operate a CNC machine to produce parts and special orders by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Create NC code to promote standard parts, special orders, on a CNC machine. • Operate machine, performing programmed parts. • Maintain documentation necessary to reproduce programs. • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, yearly machine maintenance. • Responsible for accurate sheet inventory levels and reporting of any inventory differences. • Perform monthly cycle counts when needed. • Optimize yield for all programs. • Reprogram periodic designs to optimize inventory, surplus inventory, sheet size changes, etc. • Analyze, and schedule work center job orders to allow for intermittent programming, with respect to due dates. • Maintain a positive work attitude and promote a "TEAM" approach. • Keep Area Lead/Department Manager informed of job related problems and other information related to work • activity. • Attendance and dependability are essential job functions, you must report to work on time and accurately • complete the daily duties assigned. • Transfer to other areas when needed or as work requires. They machine all items from high quality bar or plate, and are able to hold down costs as no additional setup costs are required. In comparison to castings, They can incorporate engineering changes quickly at minimal costs, offer short start up times without expensive die investments or die maintenance costs, and provide a consistent, high quality product. One of their specialties is the elimination of expensive, long lead-time castings by machining the product from solid aluminum blocks. This allows less lead time, improved base material quality, consistency, and shortened lead-time to implement or incorporate engineering changes. The duties of the job are: Responsible for the setup and operation so CNC equipment and machinery. Monitors machining activity to make adjustments, detect machine malfunctions and other issues to ensure that down time is minimized and quality is maximized. Communicate with production, engineering, programmers, quality and other machining/production personnel to provide work assignments, resolve machining issues and address quality concerns. Responsible for management of all tooling. Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting machines. Address and train production staff with continuous improvement activities and expectations. Qualifications: 2 year technical degree in CNC machining or equivalent experience. Must have horizontal machining experience with aluminum. Experience with stainless steel and titanium would be beneficial. Minimum of 2 years experience operating a CNC machine in a precision machining operation. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
