Summary The Machinist Level II is responsible for set up and operation of a variety of machine tools such as CNC, lathes, etc. This will require a solid foundation of machining skills, understanding of production principles and the ability to work independently on tasks. The ideal candidate will be a self starter and quick learner. To become a Level II Machinist all Level I skills in the level matrix must be ‘advanced’ level and be forklift certified. Essential Functions ● Set up and operate production equipment for our precision machined parts independently. This includes CNS, mills, lathes, etc. ● Write and edit programs. ● Independently decide when to make tool changes. ● Interpret all company blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts. ● Use correct wire weld size based on customer specifications and instructions. ● Safely operate forklift and hoist to flip/pick up parts while using the center of gravity in parts. ● Convert decimals for accurate measurements. ● Maintain work area and production equipment in clean and orderly condition. Follow all safety work rules. ● Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: ● Able to read company blueprints up to 100%. ● Understands how to use a tape measure and make decimal conversions using a cheat sheet. ● Can run 2 of the machining centers independently. ● Can flip/pick up most parts with the hoist safely. ● Can write and edit programs. ● Understands how to find the center of gravity in parts and can move them efficiently. ● Understands the difference between weld wire and wire sizes. ● Knows which customers require each type of weld wire and wire sizes. ● Understand when and how to make tool changes. ● Is forklift certified. ● Ability to work independently or as part of a team. ● Must have a self starter attitude. ● Superior communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner. ● Experience in running machinery and equipment. ● Has a willingness to learn. Qualifications ● Have passed all Level I skills at the advanced level. ● Must be forklift certified. ● This position requires intermediate experience working with mechanical processes and methods such as hand tools, and light equipment such as saws, drills and pneumatic tools ● Knowledge of the manufacturing industry and the need for accurate and dependable welders. Work Environment/Physical Requirements For the most part the working environment is moderately loud, dusty and dirty, temperature ranges from cold to hot as found in typical production facilities. May be subject to an outdoor work environment with adverse conditions ranging from freezing cold and snow to severe heat and humidity. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, frequently walk and climb steps, use hands and fingers, reach, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, lift, crouch, work on ladder, talk, hear and see.
