Company: Besser Company Department: Manufacturing Location: Sioux City, Iowa Posted: 07/29/2025 JOB SUMMARY: The Machinist/CNC Operator is responsible for set up and operation of all equipment in the Machine Shop including both manual and CNC machines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Sets up the machine to perform the job by selecting appropriate tooling and inserting on machine using hand tools. 2. Accurately enter time and quantity completed into the business computer system. 3. Positions guides, stops, holding blocks or other fixtures to secure the direct work piece, using hand tools and measuring device. 4. Scribes reference lines on work piece as guide for milling/drilling operations according to blueprints, templates, sample parts, or specifications. 5. Turns controls to set cutting speed, feed rate and table/head angle for specified operation. 6. Turns valves to start flow of coolant against cutting area. 7. Reads blueprint for specifications, such as materials to be used and dimensions and tolerances. 8. Replaces defective tooling using appropriate hand tools. 9. Measures completed work piece to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers. 10. Places work piece in chuck or on table, manually or using hoist, and clamps work piece into position. 11. Sharpens dulled tooling using bench grinder or abrasive wheel. 12. Examines completed work pieces for defects such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sorts defective pieces according to defect. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Experience: Two years shop experience. 3. Skills: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance. The ability to program CNC machines and knowledge of blueprints, drawings and models. Knowledge of mathematics. The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull and carry objects. The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs. Using hands and arms in handling, installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials or in manipulating things such as hand tools and hoist. 4. Requirements: Operator must work in a safe manner and must have a safe work record. Safety must be the first and foremost concern as these machines are capable of great bodily harm. Duties include but are not limited to: Promote a "safety first" culture by active participation at company safety meetings, continuous evaluation of work site for potential hazards or unsafe actions, use Personal Protective Equipment "PPE" appropriate to the work to be performed and report near misses, accidents or injuries (no matter the severity) and identify unsafe equipment/work per company guidelines or procedures Operates non-CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to produce metal parts. Carries out a variety of activities with particular focus on the following tasks Setting up and making adjustments to regulate such factors as temperature, pressure, flow and reactions of materials Calculate where to cut or bore. Machine/shape steel mostly consisting of cast or forged steel. Determine how much material to remove. Select tools and materials for the job. Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations. Mark the work piece to show where cuts should be made. Position work piece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine. Monitor and control feed rate and speed. Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled. Regulate temperature of work piece. Detect problems by listening for specific sounds. Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications. Machine Operator FULL-TIME DAY SHIFT!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • This list is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary from time to time. • Change over equipment for various sizes of containers to be run. • Keep weight sheets and other recordkeeping as required by production and/or quality control. • Clean up machines and work area after the production run. • Perform quality control duties as required. • Make minor adjustments to machinery as needed. • Relieve other operators during breaks as needed and have knowledge of all facets of each production line. • Perform housekeeping projects such as paint, mop, dust, polish stainless steel and general cleaning in the plant as needed. • Any other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager and/or Assistant Plant Manager.
