Position Overview This position is responsible for the machining of parts according to shop drawing specifications. Activities include the set-up and operation of manual and computerized lathes, mills, and other various machines, power tools, and hand tools required to complete assigned job. Ability to work unassisted in delivering core business and Research and Development (R&D) projects. Assist our research and development efforts by delivering products that are consistent with our expectations for quality, safety, value, and wholesomeness. Participate in R&D's involvement in the following: plant scale up and initial production, plant troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects. Job Functions • Machine parts according to shop drawing specifications. Measure and mark material for reference points and dimensions to assist in the accurate machining of parts. • Set-up and programming of machining equipment to produce parts. Start and observe machine operation for malfunctions and out of tolerance parameters. Adjust as needed. • Operate saws, grinders, and other various machines, power tools, and hand tools to complete assigned job. May perform various cleaning activities to maintain the safety and cleanliness of Machine Shop. Activities may include, but are not limited to, sweeping and mopping the floor, wiping off surfaces, and removing debris. • Maintain machine tools as required, such as grinding or cleaning tools to operate efficiently. Store equipment appropriately and maintain a clean work area. Ensure normal and efficient operation of all machine equipment and tools. Immediately notify management of any abnormal operation of machine, noise, or problems that need to be addressed. • Perform process inspection of parts to verify accurate measurement, dimensions, and tolerances using standard inspection equipment and measuring devices. • Complete assigned jobs on schedule and within drawing specification. Effectively communicate any issues, problems, or concerns regarding job or schedule. • Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. • Perform all other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities • Good math skills. • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints as well as maintain specified dimensional accuracy of machined parts. • Basic programming knowledge and operation of CNC lathes, mills, and digital tools. Demonstrated Competencies • Mechanical aptitude. • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees. • Must maintain a positive attitude with the ability to stay on schedule with assigned jobs. • Must have regular and punctual attendance. Physical Requirements • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 60 lbs. • This position requires walking, standing, climbing, bending, reaching, and handling. • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including weekends. Experience: 1-year minimum prior work experience machining parts including experience reading and understanding blueprints. Education in machinery may be substituted in lieu of work experience. Education: High School diploma, an equivalent, or verifiable ability to perform essential job functions. Vocational or Technical training in machining or related discipline is preferred. Work Experience • Industrial experience preferred. • Knowledgeable of OSHA safety regulations a plus. Education • High School Diploma or GED required. Physical Requirements • Ability to respond with physical exertion to use tools and materials. • Ability to climb ladders and steps (working at heights on top of rail cars and storage tanks is routine). • Willingness to work outside, perform dirty and greasy tasks, in all kinds of weather. • Willingness to work overtime, as scheduled, and adjust personal plans accordingly. • Ability to be fitted for and wear a respirator. • Ability to lift heavy objects when necessary, including connecting and disconnecting hoses to rail cars. • Ability to start pumps and adjust valves to regulate the flow of products to vessels, utilizing knowledge of loading procedures.
