CNC MACHINIST

Title: CNC Machinist Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor Basic Job Description: We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to support a dynamic, low-volume, high-mix job shop environment, combining hands-on machining with Mastercam-based CAD/CAM programming and process optimization for 2D and 3D vertical CNC machining operations. The role requires proficiency in Mastercam for offline programming to support precision machining and toolroom activities, as well as setup and operation of Fadal, Haas, and Mazak vertical machining centers. The ideal candidate will apply best practices to improve machining efficiency, extend cutting tool life, and control tooling costs. This position works closely with engineering, estimating, and production teams to provide support, ensuring manufacturability and production feasibility of complex components. The CNC Machinist plays a key role in both new product launches and ongoing continuous improvement initiatives, with a strong focus on high-feed machining technologies, cost savings, and process stability. Responsibilities: • Program CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers using Mastercam for both 2D and 3D toolpaths; create and post programs to machines. • Review customer TPD drawings or blueprints to identify material type, grade, and thickness; interpret GD&T and machining tolerances. • Write basic CNC programs directly at the machine using the HMI interface when needed. • Develop setup instructions and maintain a Mastercam cutting tool library tailored to job requirements. • Select and manage high-speed cutting tools, determining optimal speeds and feeds based on material; coordinate with tooling vendors to optimize machining throughput. • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual equipment (e.g., Bridgeport-style mills) for both production and engineering support. • Assemble machined components using jigs, fixtures, hand tools, and power tools as required. • Inspect and validate part dimensions using precision measuring tools. • Secure first-piece approvals from Quality Control before releasing production runs. • Manage the daily workflow of CNC machining, including prioritization based on machine availability and manpower needs. • Perform daily preventative maintenance and monitor coolant concentrations on all VMCs. • Submit maintenance tickets and coordinate equipment service or repairs with the Maintenance Department. • Support estimating with process development and tooling cost inputs. • Collaborate with engineering during concept development to evaluate and improve machining fixture designs in Mastercam. • Coach and mentor CNC operators in program calling, basic setups, and best practices. • Perform additional duties as assigned to support team flexibility and shop efficiency. Skills and Abilities: • Strong operation monitoring skills with the ability to observe gauges, indicators, and machine output to ensure equipment is running properly. • Proficient in controlling and adjusting machine operations to maintain optimal performance and part quality. • Experienced in quality control analysis, including performing inspections, interpreting measurements, and evaluating part conformance to specifications. • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings. • Effective problem-solving ability, with a systematic approach to identifying issues, evaluating alternatives, and implementing corrective actions. • High level of self-monitoring, with a focus on continuous improvement and taking initiative when performance adjustments are needed. • Strong adaptability, able to adjust quickly to changing priorities, setups, or machining requirements. • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly understand instructions and explain issues or suggestions to team members. • Practiced in active listening and collaborative teamwork, always ready to support others and contribute to a productive shop environment. • Detail-oriented near vision and problem sensitivity, with a keen eye for recognizing potential issues before they impact quality or safety. • Demonstrated deductive reasoning, able to apply general machining principles to solve specific, real-world manufacturing challenges. • Comfortable using Microsoft Windows-based applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook to support documentation, communication, and reporting tasks. Minimum Requirements • Strong knowledge of Mazak, Haas and Fadal machining centers • Knowledge of metal forming. • Knowledge of 2D and 3D CNC programming, especially MasterCam • Good Communicator • Knowledge of good machine maintenance practices • High School education. • Journeyman machinist card • Excellent print reading skills • Familiar with GD&T tolerances as listed on manufacturing prints and interpreting same. • (5) Years’ experience in a machine shop environment working as a CNC programmer and machinist. • Knowledge of ISO 9000 operating practices

CNC Mill Machinist & Programmer

Description: Summary As a CNC Mill Machinist, you will be integral to our manufacturing process, utilizing your expertise in CNC machinery and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will interpret blueprints and execute machining tasks with a focus on quality and efficiency. Your core skills in machining and mechanical knowledge will be essential, while your familiarity with CNC programming and GD&T will enhance our production capabilities. Machine Experience in HAAS 3 & 4 AXIS MILLS + MASTERCAM Experience Required Responsibilities: • Set up, operate, and maintain operations on one or more CNC controlled machines according to WSP production standards. • Optimizing existing processes to achieve or exceed production expectations. • Make necessary adjustments to set-up, tool wear offsets, etc. • Perform preventative maintenance and quality inspections accordingly. Requirements: Qualifications • 5+ years of CNC basic operation experience, 2+ years of setup/programming (on the job experience) • Workable understanding of basic machining knowledge (turning, drilling, milling, grinding, knurling, etc.) • Workable understand of gage/measurement knowledge (micrometer, comparator, etc.) • Ability to read and interpret documents regarding safety rules, machine instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form • Ability to train inexperienced operators utilizing an on the job training method • Ability to work with mathematical concepts to support the qualifications listed above • Ability to stand on feet 100% of the while twisting, turning, reaching, bending, climbing, pulling, & pushing.
