DESCRIPTION The Lead CNC Machinist works in our manufacturing department and must be able to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; and maintaining equipment and supplies. This position deals with the stress of managing multiple tasks at once, and prioritizing tasks based on the situation at hand. They may be asked to perform multiple roles depending on what is necessary on any given day. Their greatest skill is having the ability to understand the safety/product/quality and relate this to the team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Plans machining by studying blueprints, materials, specifications, assembly drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters. • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool and work offsets, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards. • Maintains specifications by observing, drilling, milling, and turning operations and making adjustments as necessary. • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs. • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications. • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. • Responsible for communicating escalating and working with the operations manager on manpower needs to ensure on-time delivery of WIP. • Responsible for maintaining and reporting weekly schedule of WIP. • Responsible for communicating escalating and working with the operations manager on any missing materials for WIP. • Other duties as assigned. Lead Responsibilities: • Serve as team lead for the machining team with focus on continuous improvement and accountability for quality and standards throughout the machining process. • Promote and maintain 6S standards, including safety. • Set priorities for the department and assign daily work. • Serve as SME resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. • Support, communicate, reinforce the mission, values and culture of the organization. • Communicate effectively with other functional departments such as Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and Sales. • Responsible for developing, training, and mentoring staff ensuring adherence to best practices and standards. • Approve PTO requests and expense reports, perform reviews, and assist with scheduling. Other Skills and Abilities: • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled. • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency. • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter. • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes • Strong interpersonal skills. • Good verbal and written skills. • Proven organizational skills. • Ability to prioritize and work with limited supervision. • Ability to explain how and why specific conclusions were reached. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Ability to work well under pressure and to remain flexible to changing schedules and demands. EDUCATION Minimum of 5 Years of experience is required. High School diploma or associate's degree from an accredited community college or vocational school preferred. Job-related experience and/or training will be considered in lieu of post-secondary education. Prior management or supervisory experience preferred. CNC Machinists

First/Second shifts available. CNC Machinists are responsible for total CNC machine setup, operation, maintenance and safety. Perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring or other related operations to close and interrelated tolerances on CNC and non-CNC equipment. CNC programming preferred but not required. The role requires the above to be accomplished within Tecomet‘s principles of continuous improvement, customer driven innovation and a win first culture, while meeting company financial and other performance metrics. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Operate and Set-up CNC machines within specified tolerances following work instructions and in accordance with machine programs and engineering drawings; • Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different metals where very close tolerances must be maintained; • Change dull tooling, and/or make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear; • Ensure product quality is achieved by working to operator owned quality (OOQ) standards and requirements including using a range of measuring equipment and interpreting readings; • Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to PM schedule; • Perform hand finishing; • Follow Good Manufacturing and Good Document Practices (GMP/GDP) at all times including completion of job routers/ cards; • Ensure safe working practices are carried out to minimize risks to the job holder and/or colleagues, including identifying and reporting Safety, Health & Environmental issues; • Achieve set productivity targets and identify ways of improving productivity; • Record all activities in a timely manner on the job tracking system; • Identify and support Continuous Improvement activities; • Identify and escalate manufacturing issues to the Team Leader and/or Supervisor, participating in the resolution as required; • Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within work area; • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by supervisor; EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required • 3+ years CNC Machining experience. • Associate’s degree/certificate in Tooling & Machining or Machinist apprenticeship preferred. • Experience of working in a production environment, preferred • GCSE/NVQ Math and English is desirable (UK only) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED • Ability to operate, setting up and maintaining a CNC Machine • Ability to run multiple CNC Machines • Solid necessary math skills, including measuring and keeping count records • Effective at planning, prioritizing and organizing tasks and activities with the ability to deal with competing demands within specified timescales • Ability to follow work instructions • Proven record of quality, on-time production runs • Demonstrable commitment to safety at all times • Attention to detail alongside ability to perform repeatable task over a prolonged period of time • Positive attitude, reliable, and a team player • Ability to identify problems and escalate as required • Good communication skills, written and verbal • Solid computer skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.
