Machine Operator - Parts Department

Job Summary: The metal shop machine operator and fabricator utilizes several different industrial machines to fabricate various parts. This person may use several different machines throughout the day. The metal shop supports several other departments, including tube fabrication, wall fabrication, furniture fabrication, and the assembly line. Machine Operator 3rd Shift

Description: Machine Cell Operator All employees are required to actively support of safety and 5S initiatives including surveys, audits and monitoring the safety of all department employees. Follow safety rules and keep work area clean and orderly. Machine operations include functions to clean, lock, lubricate fixtures as needed and activate machine tools. Load, unload and blow off parts per Standard Work. Visually inspect part for completed operations. Use inspection gauges as directed for defects. Remove flash and parting line from castings as directed per PIM or other cell documentation. Wash, Leak Test, Assemble and Gauge parts as directed. Make containers and put accepted parts in containers as specified in PIM. Perform final audit on parts produced. Prepare required production and quality control reports. Notify lead person, or supervisor in the lead person’s absence, of machine problems, and part or material problems. Follow safety rules and report any unsafe conditions or behaviors observed. Enter production and other requirement into the computer. Keep work area clean and orderly in accordance with 5S Standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or Equivalency. Six months to one-year experience operating a CNC machine, secondary machines, Familiarity with quality control gauges is preferred. Skills and Abilities Understanding of machine set-up sheets and process control plans. Understanding of the use of handheld gauges. Knowledge and support of safety program. Ability to deburr machined parts using hand held deburring and power deburring tools and advanced deburring equipment. Ability to wash machined parts using automatic washing or manual washing equipment. Ability to use basic gauging and measuring equipment. Ability to identify defects and inspect parts using process control plans. Ability to start all secondary equipment from power off to cycle start and operate all secondary equipment. Basic maintenance functions like maintaining fluids and basic equipment troubleshooting. The employee will be required to frequently bend forward through partial range on CNC machines and through full range during packing of parts. Good vision is required to inspect work. This position requires continuous mental and visual attention to operate machinery involving repetitive or diversified work which requires constant alertness or activity. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and temperature extremes in the plant environment.
