Machinist I

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: • Adhere to all company HSEQ processes and procedures • Review and comprehend part drawings • Basic operation of turning and milling equipment (simple/non-critical) • Operate a 4-Jaw "Independent Chuck" • Operate Surface Grinder • Operate Band Saw • Operate Drill Press • Polish various valve parts to manufacturer specifications • "Rough out" in house fabricated parts • Machine flanges to within ASME 16.50 specifications • Drill & tap holes • Knowledge of basic measuring tools (calipers, dial indicators, tape measure, thread gauge) • Introductory learning of various measuring instruments (micrometers, last word indicators, PMI gun, profilometer, thread measurement devices, and veneers) Positional Requirements & Qualifications: • Education & Experience • HS Education or GED Equivalent a plus • Machinist degree preferred • Up to 1 year industry experience • Skills & Abilities • A clear understanding of machining safety • Demonstrates proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Proper knowledge to operate rotating equipment • Basic OSHA and TWIC card (TWIC , only if required) • Basic oral & written communication skills • Ability to convert fractions to decimals efficiently and vice versa • Demonstrated "can do" attitude • Supervision: • Close Supervision Required • Must be able to travel and have a clear driving record in accordance to company driving guidelines • Clear background check and drug/alcohol screening Essential Physical Functions: • Lifting: up to 50 pounds • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions • Lift and carry: 50 pounds for 100 feet • Bending, stooping, walking and climbing stairs • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another • Communicating with others to exchange information • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers • Operating machinery and/or power tools • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned • Required physical ability if mandated by customer or regulatory requirements

Adjunct Faculty – Machining Technology Instructor

ASU Mid-South currently has teaching opportunities for a machinist or manufacturing engineer to teach Inspection, Layout, CNC Turning, or CNC Milling. Class is from 6 pm – 9 pm on Thursdays for 4-5 weeks. Pay is very good and you can earn a National Institute of Metalworking Skills certification. Great opportunity to get into the teaching profession as well as help us eliminate the skills gap. Minimum Qualifications: • Associate’s degree in General Technology with machining emphasis preferred. • At least five years of machine shop experience with specialty in high-end CNC machining. • Consideration will be given to candidates with greater experience and relevant industrial certifications.
