Job purpose: The Machinist 2 will plan and execute assignments using machine tools ranging from lathes to milling machines and CNC machines to enhance the productivity of our organization. This will include quality checks and monitoring machine output for the manufacturing of equipment, parts and structures in the forest products industry. Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions: • Operates and maintains drill press, lathe and milling machines. • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, manuals and schematics to ensure accurate production. • Complete calculations quickly, such as dimensions and tolerances of materials. • Perform proper set-up and calibration procedures for all equipment and accessories to be used on projects. • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping. • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment. • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary. • Works with costly metals where possibility of damage or spoilage is high. • Maintains a safe operation of equipment by adhering to safety protocols and regulations. QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE: • High school diploma, GED or equivalent. • Machine Tool certification/diploma preferred. • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks. CRITICAL COMPETENCIES: • Work ethic should display honesty, integrity and a good attitude. • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills. • Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail, and safety.
