Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician in the Greater Wilmington area to join our team. The Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician is primarily responsible for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs for various HVAC/R systems in commercial settings, while providing exceptional customer service. Responsibilities: • Service and maintain a wide range of commercial HVAC/R systems. • Respond to service calls and troubleshoot issues with HVAC/R systems. • Utilize diagnostic tools, meters, and gauges to analyze system performance and identify root causes of problems. • Develop effective solutions to resolve technical issues and communicate findings and recommended solutions to clients in a clear and concise manner. • Perform repairs on commercial HVAC/R systems. • Completes necessary paperwork with company issued laptop/tablet. • Participates in an on-call rotation. • Safely drives company vehicle, follows requirements of company vehicle driving policy and adheres to all safety requirements. Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent. • Proven experience as a Service Technician, with a focus on troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing HVAC/R systems. • Universal EPA certification. • Manufacturer certifications are a plus. • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. • Solid understanding of electrical circuits and troubleshooting techniques. • Ability to use diagnostic tools, meters, gauges, and other equipment to assess system performance and diagnose issues. • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients. • Basic computer skills. • Must possess a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record. • Must pass a drug screen and complete a satisfactory background check. Maintenance A - HVAC

Job Description Summary The Maintenance A - HVAC performs a wide variety of complex maintenance work, involving installation, alteration, repair or rearrangement of machines, facilities, or equipment and their related controls. They work a substantial portion of the time in the HVAC trade and will be required to perform maintenance work other than own specialty as needed to support the business. This position is for 1st shift. Typical working hours are 6AM - 2PM and Monday-Friday. Overtime may be necessary at times to support business need. The starting pay for this position will be $33.70/hour progressing to $38.23/hour after 6 months of satisfactory performance. In addition, this position qualifies for a $2/hour premium for working in the airborne controlled area. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: • Responsible for maintaining, modifying, installing, repairing, or rearranging complex equipment or machines and their related controls. Will diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform corrections with minimum of supervision. • Must be able to read, interpret, and follow complex drawings to make accurate alignment, fits or installations of parts and equipment such as piping, couplings, wiring, relays etc. • Required to understand, maintain, and repair computerized HVAC control systems and their related inputs • Required to tear down, overhaul, and reassemble intricate mechanisms, machines, apparatus, etc. involving complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubricating systems. • Responsible for providing mechanical and electrical service on various types of machinery and equipment, such as chillers, chilled water distribution, dx refrigeration equipment, air compressors and associated systems, cooling towers, boilers, instrument air, steam etc.; various process equipment, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems, including their related control equipment; and control equipment such as relays, motor starters, control valves, rotameters, pressure switches, etc. • Monitor the environmental control system checking for high d/p and proper airflow on hoods, exhaust systems and recirculation units. • Troubleshoot airflow problems on exhaust systems and recirculation units and make corrections as needed. • Required to service and repair various systems and components for chemical or caustic equipment such as tanks, piping, sumps, etc. • Installs, repairs or services such facility or production systems and their related controls as water, sanitary, generators, compressors, chemicals, compressed air, gas, steam, plumbing, heating, ventilating, or air conditioning, and waste treatment. • Will be responsible for maintenance of filter houses, demisters, dampers, and ductwork. • Required to follow Operating Procedures and other written safety requirements to perform maintenance tasks and operate machines and equipment to check work performed and demonstrate satisfactory operating condition. • Must be able to perform other maintenance services besides own specialty. • Required to work shift work in accordance with business needs. • Perform other relevant duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications • High school graduate (or GED); or formal training in HVAC preferred but equivalent experience will be considered. • Minimum of two (2) years' experience of reading and interpreting complex mechanical and electrical drawings, sketches, and schematics (P&ID). • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in HVAC. At least 2 years of experience should include troubleshooting, installation, and servicing of industrial HVAC systems such as chillers, ventilators, and air conditioners. • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with voltage levels up to 480v. • Current Freon operation license (Certified Universal Technician per 40 CFR Part 82 Subpart F). • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with basic computer skills, including ability to complete maintenance documentation, communication via email, access and retrieve information from the Internet, etc. • Must have minimum of two (2) years of proficient experience in operating at least two (2) of the following types of machine equipment: milling machines, drill, or punch presses (for metal fabrication), grinders (for metal fabrication), saws (for metal fabrication), shears, lathes, deburr/edge contouring machines, welding fabrication. • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with at least two of the following gauges: micrometers, vernier scales and calipers, and dial indicators. • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with each of the following: (a) troubleshooting mechanical and/or hydraulic systems; (b) troubleshooting and servicing control circuits; (c) industrial wiring; (d) 3-phase systems. • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with manual soldering. Manual welding is desired. • Eligibility Requirement • Must be proficient with basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and Shop Math, including decimals and fractions. • For controlled area assignments, must be able to successfully pass the Nuclear Safety Training Test, must wear protective clothing, follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations. Must be medically capable of wearing appropriate respiratory equipment. • Required to work shift work in accordance with business needs. Will be expected to respond to scheduled overtime, hold over, or emergency call-in as required. May require employee wear a pager or cell phone. • Must be able to operate forklifts and/or cranes to handle heavy materials. A formal certification is preferred. • Must be physically able to manually lift of up to 40 lbs routinely and intermittent lifting up to 80 lbs. Must be capable of manipulating of bulky, heavy machinery and parts, sometimes in awkward positions. Desired Characteristics • Associate's degree in a maintenance specialty or trade school desired. Additional Eligibility Requirements • GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a drug screen (as applicable).
