HVAC Technician

HVAC Technician Facilities Department Montgomery County Public Schools, Virginia, is accepting applications for a HVAC Technician position that is available with our Facilities Department. JOB DESCRIPTION: The HVAC technician is required to perform a variety of tasks in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment of all MCPS property within the county to maintain a condition of operating excellence. They will need to possess the ability to work independently or as part of a team to perform maintenance and make repairs, internal and exterior, in HVAC, and within skill level help all other maintenance personnel when needed in plumbing, painting, masonry, grounds maintenance and carpentry. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Valid Virginia drivers license • High school diploma or equivalent • Five years experience repairing heat pumps, AC units, and other HVAC and refrigeration equipment. • Ability to follow written and oral directions • Possess effective mechanical aptitude • Possess a working knowledge of HVAC and other tools • Ability to maintain a safe work environment • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions • Ability to perform tasks requiring moderate physical strength on a continual basis • Ability to cooperate with other staff members • Must be dependable and punctual • Must hold a current CFC License PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Working knowledge of DDC systems. • Journeyman or Masters level qualification in HVAC Equal Employment Opportunity The Montgomery County School Board is an equal opportunity employer, committed to nondiscrimination in recruitment, selection, hiring, pay, promotion, retention, or other personnel action affecting employees or candidates for employment. Job Description This technician performs field activities associated with supporting the installation, maintenance and servicing of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems for commercial customers. Duties include, but are not limited to: • Perform on-site preventative maintenance, routine repair and calibration after installation. • Handle basic, non-complex products and/or problems, referring more complex problems to higher-level technicians. • Uses experience and technical skills with preventive maintenance and system operations to determine service requirements. • Advises manager of preventive maintenance inspections performed and corrective actions to be taken. • Works in a team-based environment to share information and workload while ensuring customer satisfaction. • Must work in a safe manner on a daily basis and ensure that all safety measures are taken at all times. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Flexibility to work overtime, on-call and weekends, as required. Qualifications • High School diploma or GED equivalent • 2 to 6 years hands on Commercial HVAC Experience • EPA Certification- Type I & Type II or Universal Required • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record • Technical aptitude to perform maintenance, service, and troubleshoot equipment • Excellent Customer Service Skills • Good Electrical and Mechanical Diagnostic Skills • Ability to complete repairs and required paperwork • Ability to work independently and self-schedule • Self-motivated to complete assigned tasks within time constraints • Driven to succeed and able to work with minimum supervision • NATE certification a plus • Periodically ‘on call’ for service coverage • Travel may be required occasionally Physical Requirements: Technicians install, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on commercial, rooftop HVAC units. This work is often done independently.
