Job Summary Journeyman Lineman responsible for directing the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead transmission and distribution lines and substations. Performs various duties including investigating customer complaints, installing or cutting out service or meters, setting special meters, and maintaining street lights. Key Responsibilities: • Erects and sets poles and towers, attaches necessary crossarms, transformers, circuit breakers, cut-outs, lightning arrestors, anchors, guys, and strings, sags, insulates, attaches, and connects conductors. • Installs underground systems including circuit, laterals, vaults, and grounds; installs underground cable, transformers, switch boxes, and similar equipment. • Makes electrical connections between conductors and various types of equipment such as transformers, potheads, and terminal boxes. • Performs emergency cut-ins and cut-outs, installs and removes lightening arrestors, fuses disconnecting switches, oil and air breakers switches, and related overhead line devices. • Installs and services transformers, tests transformers in service by induction coil devices and makes replacement when necessary. • Instructs personnel in the proper and safe way to perform their duties and instructs and trains new men in the use of tools and equipment. Requirements • Physical examination and successful background information may be required for this position. • Applicants must have a strong understanding of electrical principles and practices. • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces. • Knowledge of safety rules and policies is essential. • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to train and instruct others.
