Electrical Systems Team Leader

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met • Assist with developing technical specifications and drawings for concept designs and bids • Provide oversight and guidance of individual engineer’s review of and comments on basic and detail design drawings, purchase order specifications, and other subcontracted department deliverables • Provide technical guidance, review, and approval of subcontracted scopes of work, installation procedures, test procedures, and Electrical System related design change notices (DCNs) • Ensure team member deliverables are completed on time and according to the agreed schedule • Respond to owner drawing comments, field comments, inspection concerns or other issues • Track open technical issues throughout the design of new build vessels. Guide and assist engineers with resolving them and elevate issues to the department manager when necessary • Interface with engineers, owner, classification society, and design partner to solve open owner technical issues and class comments • Review and approve design changes proposed by design partner • Process owner change requests, prepare change proposals and estimates • Hold meetings to support and enable the above activities • Travel domestically and internationally to coordinate efforts of design partners and vendors in order to facilitate progress of design, and resolve outstanding design issues • May be given design responsibility for a limited number of ship systems • Perform other related duties as required and assigned COMPETENCIES • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both verbal and written • Decision making/problem solving • Leadership • Integrity • Strategic thinking • Conflict resolution SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY Individual will be responsible for coordinating the activities of a portion of the Electrical Systems and Outfitting Engineering Department. This position will require overseeing the daily activities of the Electrical Systems and Outfitting Engineering Department when the Engineering Manager is out of the office. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering is preferred; however, candidates with a technical diploma and 10+ years’ experience in ship design and/or construction may also be considered • Minimum 5 years’ experience in shipbuilding, system design, manufacturing, or construction is required • Proficiency with MS Office and CAD systems such as AutoCAD • Knowledge of and experience with Power, Lighting, Automation, Navigation and communication systems and equipment such as Generators, Switchboards, Control Consoles and Navigation required • Knowledge/experience concerning basic and detail ship design • Knowledge/experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices • Experience with classification society rules for new construction, IMO regulations, US Coast Guard requirements, as well as International experience or familiarity with European and/or Asian shipbuilding standards WORK ENVIRONMENT Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions. • Hanwha Philly Shipyard is a TOBACCO FREE facility. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The Electrical Systems and Outfitting Engineering Department Team Leader should expect to engage in occasional field work in the shipyard's fabrication shops, dry docks, warehouses, and onboard the vessel. They should be willing to work in an industrial setting, during all four seasons, and in all types of weather. They should be able to perform extended walking or standing, climbing of multiple flights of stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, climbing, working on scaffolding, and in tight spaces. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is an on-site, full-time salaried position. Standard schedule is 9 hour days Monday through Thursday and 4 hours on Friday. Flexible start times are available. Work will be performed in the Hanwha Philly Shipyard office. Occasionally may be required to work after hours and from home to support meetings with other time zones.
