Electrical Engineer DESCRIPTION General Digital offers a variety of rugged electronic LCD monitor products designed for commercial, industrial, and military use in high technology applications, and is looking for an experienced engineer for development of LCD monitors and their corresponding electrical systems. This position would be responsible for the design of hardware, firmware, and software to perform a variety of control features within the monitors. Current embedded systems are based on Microchip PIC processors using a variety of interfaces (I2C, SPI, RS-232, Ethernet). The candidate would also be responsible for designing and testing LCD Monitors. This is a 12-month position, Monday - Friday, 11:00am - 7:30pm. Reports to the Electrical Foreman & Manager of Maintenance Services or Designee. Job Description This is skilled work at the journeyman level in electrical circuits and equipment. Work involves responsibility for the performance of assignments requiring the use of standard electrical skills in the maintenance and operation of electrical circuits and equipment for school buildings and related facilities. Assignments designated in form requests for services from various schools and/or in form of blueprints and specifications. Occasional supervision required for one or more helpers. Work is subject to review for inspection upon completion, although normal repairs completed independently without supervision or close review. Work performed in various settings subject to some interruptions and background noise. Work performed with independence and initiative, referring unusual problems to the Foreman and/or Manager of Maintenance Services. Performs varied and responsible functions requiring judgment to ensure compliance with applicable departmental and BOE/town policies, procedures and methods. Manages and coordinates multiple priorities adhering to established periods. This position has frequent contact with employees, other BOE/town departments, and vendors. Possible exposure to smells and sounds associated with use of power tools and construction sites. Requirements • Graduation from a standard high school or trade school with 3 years' experience as a journeyman electrician or any equivalent combination of training and experience. • Possession of E-2 Unlimited Journeyperson electrical license for electrical work. • Possession of a valid and job-related Connecticut driver's license. • Must have successful completion of pre-employment physical examination, drug test and criminal background check. • Possession of E-1 Unlimited Electrical Contractor license, experience with low voltage, data lines and drops, fire alarm panel, security, telephone and intercom systems, lighting control systems and emergency generators highly preferred. Qualifications • Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, terminology and best practices of the electrical trade. • Considerable knowledge of the applicable building codes. • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. • Ability to make time and material estimates for repairs and projects. • Ability to interpret and work from sketches and blueprints. • Ability to occasionally plan and assign work to helpers and laborers. • Skill in locating and correcting defects in electrical systems, devices, machines and equipment. • Skill in the use of the standard tools, equipment and testing devices of the trade. • Knowledge of computers, basic office software and other modern office equipment. • Effectively interact with others in person or by telephone. • Must be able to concentrate on fine details with occasional interruption. • Must be mobile, ability to push/pull light objects, occasionally lift objects up to 75 pounds. Duties: Duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following: • Installs electrical wiring and equipment, motors, controllers, panel boards and other electrical apparatus and circuits. • Purchases materials needed to carry out the work as well as procuring additional labor assistance when necessary. • Instructs end users in the use and care of various electrical systems and equipment such as clocks, fire alarm systems, emergency lights, heating controls and security systems. • Ensures all work completed in accordance with applicable building code regulations. • Performs related work as required. • Work may occasionally be required beyond normal working hours. Salary: $39.00 per hour with an additional $1.95 per hour night shift differential.
