Your Job We are seeking an Electrical Engineer in the controls group to design control system hardware and software that meets the needs for projects creating detailed physical layouts for printed circuit boards. This individual will use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, ensuring designs meet electrical, mechanical, and manufacturability requirements and will be responsible for programming microcontrollers and microprocessors. You can check out a highlight of our custom automation team’s capabilities here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gxNyypfzGU What You Will Do • Collaborate with the mechanical engineer and controls engineers to determine the operational specifications of a machine to design PCB layouts, enclosure designs, electrical and pneumatic schematics, bills of material and machine cable routing in CAD. • Create detailed PCB layouts from engineering schematics, optimizing component placement, routing traces, and maintaining signal integrity. As well as generating manufacturing files for PCB manufacturers. • Write, test, and debug microcontroller code that controls the hardware of embedded devices, developing efficient, high-performance code that meets the memory and processing constraints of microcontrollers. • Optimize designs for reliable and efficient manufacturing, considering factors like thermal management and production processes. • Attend Design Reviews and PFMEA’s while working with mechanical engineers to improve current and future designs of automation. • Tracks projects using internal methods for summarizing component cost, labor, and lead time. Develops accurate, up-to-date BOM’s and Spare Parts Lists. • Assist in executing the machine debug, qualification, and installation. • Assist in the testing and troubleshooting of PCB prototypes during the development phase. • Stay updated on new technologies, design tools, and industry standards to maintain competitiveness. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or similar • PCB design software experience like Altium Designer, Eagle, Cadence Allegro, DipTrace, and KiCad. • Experience with microcontroller (Arduino) and microprocessor (Raspberry Pi) programming with software like IDE, Visual Studio, Python. • Knowledgeable in electronics, circuit theory, and electromagnetics for creating functional and reliable designs. What Will Put You Ahead • 3-5 years of PCB design software experience like Altium Designer, Eagle, Cadence Allegro, DipTrace, and KiCad. • 3-5 years of experience with microcontroller (Arduino) and microprocessor (Raspberry Pi) programming with software like IDE, Visual Studio, Python. • Familiar with IPC standards for design, fabrication, and assembly. • Prior success completing complex electronic system designs from concept through debug. • Experience with servo motion control systems and touch screens. • Knowledge of automation and controls systems like PLCs and industrial robots. • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software. • Some PLC language programming experience like ladder logic.
