Position Summary We are looking for a Type-A, self-motivated Journeyman Carpenter who can not only perform at the highest level in carpentry but also run jobs, coordinate trades, and serve as the go-to problem solver on site. This role is for someone who thrives on accountability, adapts to diverse project needs, and brings proficiency in multiple trades—including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general construction. Key Responsibilities • Lead day-to-day operations on assigned projects, ensuring schedules, budgets, and quality standards are met. • Execute advanced carpentry work including framing, finish carpentry, cabinetry, and custom builds. • Apply multi-trade knowledge (basic electrical, plumbing, drywall, and more) to resolve issues in real time. • Coordinate subcontractors and communicate effectively with project managers and clients. • Enforce jobsite safety standards and company policies at all times. • Mentor apprentices and junior carpenters, setting the pace and tone for productivity. See More Details >>Tentative Interview Dates: December 1, 2025 - December 5, 2025 Under direction of the Theater Operations Supervisor, initiates, plans, leads and performs stage rigging, carpentry functions and configuration changes for scheduled productions, performances and shows at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA); structures, monitors and coordinates maintenance and repair work on stage rigging systems; inspects and troubleshoots electrical high and low voltage control components and CCPA’s configuration systems; obtains and prepares quotes for requisitions and bids for large carpentry and stage rigging purchases; performs related work as required. • Confers, and meets with performance artists, technical crews, rental clients, and other City Departments to evaluate and implement rigging, carpentry, and fly rail requests and requirements; consults and advises artists and performers on appropriate use of rigging system and conditions for optimal auditorium performances. • Leads, inspects, monitors and oversees CCPA Performing Arts building configurations and structural operations; manages and monitors design and set-up procedures and maintenance; examines, reviews and troubleshoots equipment, control systems and rigging apparatus. • Leads and provides work direction to part-time staff during scheduled work shifts; guides and directs part-time assistant in set-up and proper arrangement of carpentry and rigger equipment and apparatus. • Serves as the lead house rigger/head carpenter for performances; oversees and ensures appropriate and safe operations of fly rail system. Establishes infrastructure and systems to support the work of the lighting and audio teams. • Provides work direction to stage and rigging crews during scheduled performances; plans, assigns tasks and monitors progress for CCPA’s carpentry production, rigging, configuration, and related maintenance; trains and guides crews on proper safety measures and methods. • Interprets, evaluates, and implements rigging requests and requirements for performers and artists; consults and advises on appropriate use of rigging systems and optimal auditorium conditions and operational functions during performance. • Leads and coordinates with Public Works in the maintenance and repair work on stage rigging systems including counterweight systems, mechanical drive systems, air caster systems, and moveable building systems; monitors and conducts preventative maintenance, inspection and repair; inspects and arranges for repair of power distribution systems, chain motor, belt and wire rope mechanical drives, synthetic and wire rope rigging, relay type logic circuitry, and pneumatics and hydraulics. • Utilizes and employs high and low voltage control systems; inspects and troubleshoots electrical components for CCPA’s building configuration systems; examines and assesses complex interlock systems. • Prepares and maintains inspection and repair documentation records. • Develops and maintains active training and qualification program for rigging and moveable building systems in the facility. Leads staff in operating the moveable building systems. • Monitors CCPA tool inventory; purchases new tools, hardware, and expendables, when necessary. • Gathers and prepares quotes, requisitions and bid documents for large rigging and carpentry purchases; submits invoices and CalCard statements. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Performs related work as required. • Works a varying schedule of hours which may include early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: • Technical theater, basic lighting, and sound. • Working in an active multi-configurable performing arts complex. • Production and presentation rigging for theater, dance, musicales, and concerts including contemporary musical events. • Stage-related equipment, including but not limited to power distribution systems, chain motor, belt, and wire rope mechanical drives, computerized programmable chain motor systems, fall protection, control systems, and both large and small power tools. • High voltage and low voltage electricity, electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, programmable logic controllers, ladder logic, and interlocking control systems. Ability to: • Communicate clearly with others. • Provide work direction to crews to complete tasks. • Prioritize tasks and determine the best course to complete work. • Maintain inspection and repair documentation records. • Interpret and implement various rigging requests and requirements. • Perform carpentry work. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, City Officials, supervisors, and the general public. • Confer and collaborate with road companies and technicians using the theater. • Prepare complete and accurate reports. • Meet deadlines and follow-through. • Interpret policy and establish methods and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Education: High School diploma or GED. • Experience: Five (5) years of experience in technical theater production (stage rigging and carpentry) in a large performing arts complex or similar entertainment and event facility.
