Lead Carpenter

Summary: The Lead Carpenter is responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of carpentry work on assigned projects, including layout, construction, repair, and finishing. This senior-level role ensures quality control, jobsite coordination, and supervision of Journeyman, Apprentice Carpenters and subcontractors. As a key contributor, the Lead Carpenter serves as a mentor, fostering team development while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship, safety, and efficiency. Essential Functions: • Leads jobsite carpentry operations, including layout, scheduling, and task delegation. • Performs advanced rough and finish carpentry including doors, cabinetry, framing, stairs, trim, flooring, and custom millwork. • Reads and interprets complex blueprints, scopes of work, and specifications • Directs and monitors work of Journeyman and Apprentice Carpenters. • Plans ahead for materials, tools, site access, and safety requirements. • Inspects completed work to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with codes and company standards • Ensures adherence to jobsite safety practices and procedures. • Communicates and coordinates with project managers, supervisors, trades, deliveries, and contractors to maintain workflow, jobsite efficiency, and project timelines. Other Functions: • Assists with estimating labor hours and material quantities for carpentry scopes. • Leads punch list completion and final inspections. • Identifies and recommends process or workflow improvements to increase efficiency and quality. Mental and Physical Demands: • Fast-paced, variable environments including indoor, outdoor, and partially built structures. • Requires multitasking, high-level problem solving and decision-making under pressure. • Regular lifting of 75–100 lbs., repetitive motion, prolonged standing, and overhead work. • Works at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts; operates a wide range of tools and construction equipment. Supervisory Responsibilities: • Directly supervises Journeyman and Apprentice Carpenters on active projects, providing mentorship and feedback. • Ensures work meets company standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. • Acts as a field leader and liaison to management. Core Competencies/Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or vocational training preferred. • 6+ years of experience in carpentry, including 2+ years in a supervisory role. • Advanced knowledge of residential framing, finish carpentry, drywall, and millwork. • Proven ability to lead a crew and complete projects efficiently. • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. • Knowledge of jobsite safety and OSHA regulations. • Valid Class C Driver’s License with clean record.
