The appearance and finish of work produced at this level is not critical. Examples of such work are building and repairing frameworks, scaffolds, supports, and simple wooden articles. The employee is given specific instructions for work to be done. A higher level employee is available to assist in solving any problems that may arise. Since work is closely checked while in progress, errors of any serious consequence are unlikely to occur. Direct supervision is given to employees at this level. Education and Experience Some aptitude for carpentry work demonstrated in prior work, school experience or personal activities. Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable): Essential Functions/Typical Tasks • Gathers materials to be used. • Measures and marks materials for cutting. • Cuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power Joins materials with nails, screws or glue. • Checks accuracy of work with levels, rulers and measuring tapes. • Fits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs in preparation for boards. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Some knowledge of methods of carpentry work. • Some skill in using tools to cut and join wooden materials. Ability to follow simple written instructions. • Ability to follow oral instructions with little need for repitition Physical Requirements Employee must have verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. Must possess clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments. Standing and walking for extended periods of time are done on a continual basis and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment is a must. There will be a large degree of reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally with occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 75 pounds is also a physical requirement of this position.
