Job Title: Executive Director – Gaston Regional Aquatics Center Organization: Gaston Aquatics, Inc. Location: Dallas, Gaston County, North Carolina Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt (hours commensurate with the peak operational hours of facility) About Us: Gaston Aquatics, Inc. is a community-focused non-profit organization dedicated to improving health and wellness through aquatics. We provide swimming instruction for children and adults as well as specialized programs, including adaptive aquatics, medically focused rehabilitation, fitness classes, first responder training, and veteran outreach. GRAC will be the home of a regional, USA Swimming youth, and USMS adult competitive swim team setting a standard of excellence that further develops athletes to succeed in the pool and in life. Our state-of-the-art Aquatics Center now under construction will serve as the hub for our aquatic activities, including learn-to-swim programs, competitive swimming teams, and events that promote water safety and healthy lifestyles. Position: We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Executive Director to lead Gaston Aquatics Regional Center and further our mission of promoting water safety, fitness, and competitive swimming excellence. While working collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee all aspects of our aquatics programs, facility operations, finance, fundraising, and human resources to ensure a balanced approach that supports both learn-to-swim initiatives and competitive swimming events. We anticipate approximately 20 staff initially, as well as an anticipated $2+ million initial operating budget (expected to grow) to $2.5+ million within 2 years. Essential Functions: 1. Leadership and Strategy: ● Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Gaston Aquatics Center in line with the organization's mission and goals. ● Provide leadership to and collaboration with the Aquatics Director, ensuring the effective management of aquatics programs. ● Provide leadership to and collaborate with the Finance Director, ensuring effective use of funds and stewardship of public monies while maintaining 501(c)3 standards ● Report to the Board of Directors to establish and execute long-term plans for the Aquatics Center. 2. Program Development: ● Oversee the creation and expansion of inclusive learn-to-swim programs that promote swimming and meet the needs of the community. ● Promote and enhance competitive swimming teams and exciting aquatics events that showcase and foster a culture of excellence 3. Financial Management: ● In collaboration with the Financial Director, develop and manage the GRAC’s board-approved budget, ensuring financial sustainability through revenue generation, forecasting, resource allocation, and cost control. ● Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure grants, sponsorships, donations, and other revenue sources to support programs and facility improvements. 4. Facility Maintenance: ● Supervise the execution of facility maintenance and safety protocols to provide a clean, safe, and inviting environment for all users. ● Maintain compliance with federal, state, county, and city statutes, codes, regulations and officials, as well as relevant USA Swimming and USMS regulations. ● Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to plan and execute maintenance and renovation projects. 5. Revenue Operations: ● Maximize revenue-generating opportunities through efficient facility utilization, program fees, events, and grants. ● Explore innovative revenue streams while maintaining affordability and accessibility for the community. 6. Community Engagement: ● Foster positive relationships with community organizations, schools, and local authorities to promote aquatics programs and events. ● Represent the Aquatics Center in public events and meetings. 7. Human Resources and Personnel Management: ● Recruit, train, and manage a team of dedicated staff and volunteers to ensure the success of Gaston Aquatics’ mission. ● Supervise the Aquatics Director, Finance Director, Front Office, Lifeguards, and any other Facility staff. ● Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment which is highly effective, efficient, and focused on excellence. 8. Board of Directors Collaboration: ● Work closely with the Board of Directors to provide regular updates, seek input, and align organizational strategies with their guidance. ● Engage the Board in fundraising and community relations efforts. ● Provide reports to the Board of Directors as to the financial and utilization health of the organization. Required Qualifications: ● Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Sports Management, Non-profit Management, Business Administration) plus 10 years of leadership and management experience; alternatively, a master’s degree in a relevant field plus 5 years of leadership and management experience. ● Proven experience successfully leading and managing teams, ideally in the non-profit sector or in aquatics center management. ● Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal responsibility. ● Experience with creating and implementing learn-to-swim and competitive swimming programs, or other similar program creation and implementation. ● Strategic thinking: experience and ability in developing and implementing long-term, strategic plans. ● Mission alignment: an understanding and passion for Gaston Aquatics’ mission and values. ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ● Experience and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with the community, stakeholders, partners, and volunteers. ● Experience in dynamic and challenging environments. ● Adaptable and capable of handling changing circumstances and priorities. ● High ethical standards and integrity. ● Cultural competency: possesses and demonstrates through program implementation and leadership an understanding of and respect for diverse cultures and communities. Preferred Qualifications: ● Familiarity with non-profit operations, fundraising, donor relations, grant writing, and compliance with non-profit regulations. ● Experience working with a Board of Directors, able to engage and collaborate effectively with board members. ● Experience teaching swim lessons or lifeguarding. ● Experience coaching swim or other athletic teams. ● Experience managing an aquatic center to include facility maintenance.
