Construction, Maintenance, and Planning Department Position Title: Carpenter Supervisor Essential Job Functions: • Prepare, schedule, and supervise the work layout for the maintenance, alteration and repair of building structures and components. • Perform carpentry tasks to include wood and metal stud framing, drywall hanging and finishing, installation of suspended ceiling systems, ceiling tile replacement, various types of finish and sub-floor installation, painting, minor masonry repairs, cabinets and counter tops, shelving, toilet partitions, doors and windows, window blind ordering and replacement, repair/replace door and cabinet hardware, install/replace fire extinguisher cabinets, construct/repair/replace wood decks/ramps, remove/install wall banners/plaques/boards, maintain flagpoles including rope replacement, patching/repairing walls, playground equipment repair/replacement, storefront glass systems, and miscellaneous repairs. • Supervise carpentry jobs requiring a high degree of skill and provide assistance when • needed. • Provide estimates of personnel and material required for a job and maintain records of • actual time and materials used. • Perform material take offs. • Assign carpenters to jobs and oversee the work. • Requisition materials and supplies from vendors. • Inspect job site conditions and work methods for hazards to ensure proper safety measures are being observed. • Coordinate and oversee work being performed by subcontractors. • Coordinate and facilitate surplus pickup and delivery. • Perform related work and other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or designee. Physical and Cognitive Requirements: Must be able to: • walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch • work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions • work at heights at or above 20 feet • operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools • determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work • observe general surroundings and activities • safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the carpentry trade; thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and specifications; ability to inspect materials and workmanship to determine level of quality; ability to plan, organize and direct work; ability to read and work from blueprints; ability to prepare material estimates; ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships. Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. Extensive experience in all aspects of the carpentry trade or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. General knowledge of state and local building codes is required. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Experience in layout, drafting, project management, ergonomic design, Industrial Engineering, CAD Operation, and USDA requirements is desirable. Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements: This role may require moving light equipment or supplies from one place to another. You may need to access files, supplies, and equipment. You will be working in a plant environment with exposure to wet and moist floors, metal and plastic grating surfaces, temperatures ranging from 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and humidity levels of 100%. You may handle product at temperatures between 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Noise levels may range from 50 db to 110 db.
