Welder - Pipe

This position is primarily responsible for prepping and welding the structural items, including decks, frames, and brackets. Operators follow engineering drawings, work order information, Manufacturing Assembly Procedures, and other written and verbal specifications by performing the following duties. WHAT YOU WILL DO · Review engineering prints of all parts to be welded. · Layout work on welding tables as required using weld positioners. · Check the parts for quality and usability. · Write a requisition slip when material is requested from stock. · Performs various welds as required using the established ANGI weld procedures for pipe welding. · Prep and weld ASME code compliant high-pressure vessels with 1/8” open root pass · Mark the weldment for identification, and stage for the next operation. All weld joints are recorded on the weld log, parts are stamped using low impact stamps to I.D. each joint with the weld # and welders clock number. The Heat Number for each pipe and component is also recorded. · Return unused materials to the rack. Scrap materials and unusable off falls are placed in the proper dumpster. Any material adjustments are made. · Maintain the welder and other related equipment in good working order. · Maintain a neat, clean, orderly and safe working environment always. WHO YOU ARE High school diploma or GED plus one year certificate from college or technical school, Welding Certificate preferred; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to certify to ASME B31.3 Pipe Welding Procedures in GTAW and GMAW 6G. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. We have positions on all shifts at our Woodville, Neillsville and Phillips facility. Woodville: 1st shift, Monday – Thursday, 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m / 2nd shift, Monday – Thursday, 4:15 p.m. – 2:45 a.m (10% shift premium!) / 3rd shift is our weekend shift Friday – Sunday, 6:00 am – 6:00 pm (20% shift premium and overtime over 36 hours!) Neillsville: 1st shift, M-Th, 6am – 4:30pm / 2nd shift two potions, M-Th, 4:30pm – 3am or M-W, 4:30pm – 5:30am (10% shift premium!) / 3rd shift (weekend shift) Fri. – Sun. 6am – 6pm (20% shift premium and overtime over 36 hours!) Requirements The following listed articles are required (or as deemed necessary by the hiring authority) for the initial acceptance of a welder. A High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Minimum of one (1) year related schooling and 2 years welding/fitting experience or any combination of schooling and/or experience that equals twelve (24) months. Pass OEM’s physical weld test, written welder exam which includes blueprint reading, tape measure reading and various welding question. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Set up weld machine with proper gas and wire. Organize weld components in assigned work station using forklift, hoist, or manual lifting. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded ensuring there are no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease or other foreign matter. Check welding components for visible defects. Check joint fit-up for misalignment prior to welding. Read and interpret blueprints as required to complete necessary welds. Weld components using proper welding techniques controlling distortion, shrinkage, and weld size to finish weld assemblies to meet or exceed customer requirements. Remove all slag and heavy spatter from completed welds. Check completed welds for visible defects. Correct defects immediately. Use time and material effectively to meet or exceed Company’s Advise Supervisor of problem areas. Perform an acceptable amount of work with few or no errors. Internal and/or External Relationships Work with and takes work direction from Lead Welders and Supervisor. Work in conjunction with Welder Trainees, Certified Welders, Fitter Welders, and Lead Welders to weld assemblies per customer print and specifications. Perform Routine Maintenance Of All Equipment Utilized Maintain all equipment in good working order during daily operations. Adhere to established preventive maintenance plan. Make recommendations for equipment maintenance to Supervisor. Maintain a Clean and Safe Work Area Work area and equipment are clean and safe at all times. Keep walkways and exit doors are clear of equipment, material, tools, etc. Be sure all required guards and safety equipment are properly used. Sweep work area out to isle at end of shift. Contribute to a Favorable Work Environment Establish and maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees. Willing to work as a team member. Convey a positive attitude toward coworkers. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance when interacting with outside customers, service personnel and vendors.
