Welder - SP

Reporting Relationship: Welders will report to the Department Lead/Shift Supervisor General Responsibilities: • Adheres to all safety rules and regulations along with the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures. • Lays out, aligns, fits and welds fabricated steel components to assemble structural forms. • Assembles structures such as pallet rack, cantilever rack, portable rack systems, industrial steel containers and industrial guard railing. • Reads blueprints and weld assemblies to comply with engineering standards. • Enters accurate quantities, material used and time in MD link. • Bolts, clamps and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. • Sets up equipment and welds parts by hand on automatic MIG welding equipment. • Operates robotic welding cell. • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and welding as required. • Maintains baseline production rates. • Must meet or exceed all welding qualifications and expectations determined by Steel King Industries. • Performs all other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. • 1-3 months related experience and/or training. • AWS Certification-to be provided by Steel King. • Forklift operation experience is a plus but is not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. • Apply skills to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. • Satisfactorily perform essential duties. • Write simple correspondence. • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees. • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure. Physical Demands and Work Environment: • Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time. • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to vibration. • Noise level is usually high. • Frequent reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; occasionally sitting, climbing or balancing. • Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds. • Specific vision requirements; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust your focus. • Must properly follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures including wearing and utilizing the proper PPE required of this position. • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. TIG Welder I

Job Summary The TIG Welder I is responsible for performing precision welding to fabricate the Company’s wheelchair products and components. The role must possess the technical skills to safely set up and use Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding equipment, read blueprints and fabrication sheets, and operate effectively on their own under minimal supervision, as well as, in a team environment. Additionally, this role must possess basic computer skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively in both a written and verbal manner to management and other team members. This is an entry to intermediate level position requiring the knowledge and skill of basic TIG welding techniques, safety practices, and attention to detail. This is a physically demanding position that requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, lift heavy equipment, and properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Essential Functions Job Responsibilities • Perform TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals to weld components based on engineering drawings, blueprints, and/or fabrication sheets. Adjust welds as needed. • Set up welding equipment and select appropriate materials and tools. • Accurately measure and lay out locations of welded components. • Perform equipment troubleshooting or maintenance as needed. • Inspect finished welds for accuracy, quality, and conformance following company and customer specifications. • Assist in fitting and assembling components as needed. • Report material shortages or equipment issues in a timely manner to supervision. • Maintain welding certifications and participate in ongoing training. • Learn operations of multiple jigs/fixtures within the job area. • Must work at a reasonable pace within quality and production standards. • Check and verify part numbers prior to assembly of product to customer specifications. • Adjust equipment settings, troubleshoot equipment issues, and perform routine maintenance. • Must be quality conscious and take responsibility for own quality of product. • Maintain accurate and legible records. • Ensures and follows safety requirements and standards. • Adheres to Company’s Quality System requirements. • Maintain a safe, neat, and orderly work environment. • Perform all duties in a manner that follows, demonstrates, and promotes Company’s values. • Report to work as scheduled, on time, and able to work entire work schedule. • Perform additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability • Skill and ability to safely set up and use welding equipment. • Familiarity with weld inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges). • Skill and ability to read blueprints and take measurements. • Ability to operate effectively under minimal supervision independently and withing a team environment. • Self-motivated and goal-oriented. • Basic level skills using computer applications (Word, Excel, enterprise software). • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with the welding process. • Skill and ability to pay attention to detail with a focus on quality. • Ability to use fabrication equipment such as: grinder, drill, band saw, and cold saw. • Possess effective written and oral communication skills. • Ability to complete Company welding test. • Highly adaptable and responsive to changing business needs. • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge of quality processes including measurements, documentation, and final inspection. • Able to work effectively both independently and within a team environment. • Ability to observe and identify details. • Ability to work extended hours as scheduled, including weekends. Physical Demands • Must be able to lift and handle welding equipment and wheelchair components. • Continuous wrist manipulation, walking, and standing. • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting. • Frequent light work with lifting up to 10 pounds. • Occasional medium work with lifting up to 50 pounds. • Manual dexterity to position product and to use of welding tools and equipment. • Must be able to complete all physical requirements to perform essential functions. Qualifications Experience • Required: • 1-2 years of experience in TIG welding or relevant secondary schooling or welding certifications. • Preferred: • Basic fabrication or machining experience. • Experience working in a manufacturing environment. • Experience working with hand tools and measuring tools. • Kanban/Lean experience is beneficial.
