AAP/EOE Qualifications The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications: · Minimum of a high school diploma or similar qualification. · Demonstrate proficiency in specialized welding processes such as GTAW, SMAW etc. · Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position. · Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision. · Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools. Experience • Must be able to pass a carbon steel 6G 6" SCH 80 tig root • Must be able to hot pass 7018 stick filler and cap and a 2"carbon steel SCH stainless steel root hot pass filler and cap. • Plan, lay-out, weld, install, test and repair all types and sizes of pipe and similar tubular products in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, welding codes and industry standards. • Employ various techniques to permanently join metal pipes together. Read and interpret pipe construction schematic drawings or blueprints to lay-out a structure. • Prepare for a welding operation by cutting and shaping pipes using power saws, grinders and other power or non-powered tools. • Use micrometers, calipers, straightedges, and other precision measuring instruments and tools to check gap allowances, grooves or angles, make alignments and secure metal parts. • Conduct assessments to verify workpieces are free of defect and conform to set specifications. • Adhere to safety requirements by wearing appropriate protective gear during welding operations. • Install and repair various types and sizes of pipes and tubular products according to set plans and building code. Combination Welder

SUMMARY Combination - Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe being proficient in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW welding processes. May require x-ray qualities. Lays out, aligns and welds fabricated, cast and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings and pipe, according to blueprints and metallurgy. RESPONSIBILITIES • Selects type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications. • Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage and welding techniques. • May be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes. • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together in various body positions. • Bolts, clamps and welds together metal components of products such as piping systems, plate, pipe and tube or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipment. May weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead position. May tack weld assemblies together. • Connects cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse as specified by procedure or supervisor. • Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun. • Starts power supply to produce electric current. • Strikes arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece. • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld-line, maintaining length of arc and speed and movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. • May manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. May clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath. May repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. May remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipper. May preheat work piece, using hand torch or heating furnace. May cut metal plates or structural shapes. • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies. • May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installation. • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment. • Assists other mechanics as needed. • Respiratory protection is common and may be required. • Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards. Performs only procedures certified in. • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required. Part Time Welding Instructors

General Description There are two positions available at the WCJC Wharton and Bay City Campuses. Day and evening hours are available. The permanent responsibility of a faculty member is to provide the most effective instruction possible in his/her discipline. Supervision is received from appropriate supervisor. The faculty member works to insure that his/her instruction is meeting the educational needs of students. Requirements This position requires a Certificate in Welding and 36 months of work experience as a welder. A criminal background check is required. Please re-open your application form to verify all documents are properly attached. Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) provides three retirement plans for it's part time employees. Part time employees must select and contribute to one of these three retirement plans. Teachers Retirement System (TRS) Part time employees of WCJC who are currently contributing to TRS through another school must select TRS. TRS deductions will be made from their paycheck. (Note-Part time employees not currently contributing to TRS through another school system MUST choose either Social Security or the 403b Tax Sheltered Annuity plan offered by WCJC through TIA-CREF.)
