Vessel Welder

Job Title: Vessel Welder Job Description We are seeking skilled vessel welders to join our team. You will be responsible for welding on storage tanks, spheres, and water towers ranging from 23ft to 43ft. This position requires proficiency in stick and flux core welding to construct vessels and components for tanks. Candidates must be capable of welding on carbon steel up to 3 inches thick and back gouging for 100% x-ray welds. Responsibilities • Weld storage tanks, spheres, and water towers using stick and flux core welding techniques. • Perform welding on carbon steel up to 3 inches thick. • Utilize back gouging techniques for 100% x-ray welds. • Operate overhead cranes as part of the welding process. Essential Skills • 3+ years of experience as a vessel welder. • Ability to pass 2G and 3G weld tests and perform back gouging. • Proficiency in welding with flux core and stick techniques. • Experience with vessel components and gouging. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Any fitting experience is a plus. • Ability to read prints and work with isometric drawings. • Experience in fabricating storage tanks, vessels, and towers. • Capability to perform layouts and fit-ups. Work Environment The position is based in a large, non-climate controlled shop where safety is a top priority. You will start on the day shift for six months, working from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with potential Saturday work as needed. Afterward, you will transition to the night shift from 4:15 p.m. to 2:45 a.m. for 2-4 months, during which a shift differential is provided. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77064. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $27.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Specialty Vessel and Tank Field Welders Summary: Responsible for performing welding and grinding functions per job specifications. Selects equipment and plans layout and assembly of welding. Works closely and interacts with supervision. Works with precise limits and standards of accuracy. TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES: • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.” • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.” • Efficiently produce quality welds. • Perform or assist with fit‐up and preparation of welds. • Perform or assist with post weld cleanup, inspection, and repair. • Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman with regard to issues and concerns • on the job site. • Comply with all Matrix safety policies and programs. • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Specialty Vessel Welders must be able to pass the following weld tests. 9% Nickel Plate Test: • FCAW (ENiCrMo3T1-4) - 2G, 3G, 4G • FCAW (ENiCrMo-6) - 2G, 3G, 4G Tank Welders must be able to pass the following weld tests. Carbon Steel Plate Test: • FCAW (Flux Core) – 2G, 3G, 4G • SMAW E6010 (5P) 3G, Downhill • SMAW E7018 – 2G, 3G, 4G • Must maintain a 95-100% pass rate on weld X-ray/visual exams. • Must be able to read prints and written instructions as well as follow verbal directions required to perform duties and responsibilities. • Follow welding procedure specifications when welding. • Matrix Welders will receive a competitive compensation. Rate pay will be established upon successful completion of weld test. Qualifications: • Tank Building experience, preferred. • Must obtain and maintain an active status within the drug testing program and pass background screening. • Must possess or be able to pass the Basic Safety Council Class Courses • Must complete the Matrix Service Basic Safety training and site-specific training. • Must possess a valid TWIC card. • Site may require fire retardant clothing. • Maintain clean shaven and/or free of facial hair so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly. (Site Specific) • Must be willing to frequently travel/relocate. • Must be willing to work frequent overtime. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to perform tasks at heights. • Work will include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 60 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools. Heavy lifting will often be required to perform tasks. • Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb. Work will include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers. Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8-10 hours per day • Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time, often inside confined spaces. • Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
