Mechanical Engineer - St. Paul, VA

Basic Purpose The Manufacturing Engineer will be required to work closely with Product Design Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing and will be responsible for creating fabrication drawings and machine programming using 3D CAD packages such as SolidWorks, as well as implementing improved methods of fabrication. Responsibilities • Creates drawings from CAD models, including part and assembly drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing, testing and assembly, and support components to assist with assembly. • Supports product sourcing, purchasing and selection as required by the design process. • Provides technical and engineering support for day-to-day processing and process improvements. • Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and properties. • Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components. • Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and system capabilities, and confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. • Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. • Participates in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, and codes. • Designs parts, components, and assemblies to meet requirements of assigned projects. • Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; reports all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel. • Availability to travel, domestically and internationally, at least 25% of the year to act as a liason for customer installation. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. • Strong knowledge of CAD modeling, drawings and machine design with experience in design analyses. Experience with SolidWorks is a plus. • Good understanding of manufacturing processes. Experience with CAM software is a plus. • Hands on experience with automated manufacturing equipment is desired.

Maintenance Manager

Key End Results: • Provide direction to the Maintenance Department in support of production and facilities. • Utilize a variety of tools to study and analyze ways to improve manufacturing processes resulting in increased efficiency and reduced manufacturing costs. • Develop, evaluate, and recommend methods and equipment to improve quality and efficiency. • Study and recommend facility layout revisions to improve material flow through the plant. • Coordinate and participate in a variety of improvement activities resulting in enhanced operating efficiency or lower manufacturing costs. • Establish and implement programs to maintain quality test functions at or above industry standards and resolve all final test production bottlenecks. Nature of Position: Federal Pacific Transformer (FPT) provides low voltage and medium voltage transformers and electrical switchgear for a variety of industrial and commercial applications. In addition, FPT provides special design and manufacturing services for mining applications. All production, marketing, and manufacturing for FPT products is consolidated at the Bristol Virginia location. Sales of FPT products are handled by a variety of manufacturing representatives with both domestic and international locations. FPT provides high quality products at a competitive price. FPT operates in a highly competitive environment requiring the close management of costs at all levels of the organization. Relationships: This position has external contact with vendors and capital equipment suppliers on a variety of cost improvement ideas. Internal contact will include associates in all departments on waste reduction and process improvement. Travel: Minimal travel Background: The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong emphasis on process improvement and continuous improvement practices. A minimum of 5 years in a maintenance management or team leadership role is strongly preferred. While a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field is not required, it is considered a plus. Candidates with technical school education, PLC training, and experience with automation or robotics will be given strong consideration. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be accepted at the discretion of the General Manager. Primary Accountability: • Provide direction and priority to the maintenance department, balancing production support and project completion. • Control maintenance / facility related expenses. • Assure that preventive maintenance activities are implemented. • Review manufacturing methods and processes to develop recommendations on improvement and enhanced effectiveness. • Work on special projects as directed to improve the business. • Work with vendors on new technology and upgrades to existing technology. • Coordinate a variety of process improvements and cost reduction projects. • Implement improvement ideas and coordinate team meetings.
