Job Summary: The Construction Crew Member will perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor at underground utility, highway and heavy construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers. Upon completion of an introductory period, this individual will be eligible to apply for the Inland NW AGC Apprenticeship program. While completing the assigned training they will also work in the field and will receive training and supervision while performing tasks. Minimum Required Skills and Experience: • The company will train a qualified applicant for this position. • Able to perform strenuous manual labor activities for the workday. • Hearing and speaking sufficient to answer the phone and communicate with employees and others. • Vision for reading and writing, to see clearly at all distances on construction sites, and at night. • Able to walk and climb around job sites and in and out of equipment where ground conditions and elevations are variable. • Able to kneel, crouch, bend. • Able to work in extreme weather, hot and cold. • Physical strength to operate hand pumps and lift 60 pounds. • Reliable transportation. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: • Maintain a clean job site. • Secure tools and equipment at job site each day to eliminate potential hazards. • Perform all duties safely. • Performs manual work in preparing surfaces for placing pipe or other underground fixtures. • Dig trenches with trenching tools or hand tools. • Grade or level trench bases using various tools. • Break-up concrete and other structures with jackhammer, sledgehammer or other tools. • Run vibrating compactor over grade. • Communicate information to help guide equipment operator. • Load and unload materials and perform materials handling and storage. • Lift and carry piping and other fittings, Place, set or lay pipe and other underground fixtures precisely on surveyed grade on prepared bedding. • Able to work alone in locations not readily visible to co-workers. • Operate pickup trucks and other equipment used to transport materials on and off the job site. • Attend assigned training for Apprenticeship program and report as needed to program officials and supervisors on the status of training. • Other duties as assigned.
