Job Description Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines that cut, shape, and finish wood components according to design specifications. Here's a breakdown of what they typically do: Work Experience Reading blueprints or CAD files • Understand design drawings or digital plans to determine how to shape the wood parts. Setting up CNC machines • Install tools and fixtures (like drill bits or saw blades) and load wood materials onto the machine. • Calibrate the machine for speed, depth, and tool paths. Programming or running pre-written programs • Input CNC programs into the machine, sometimes writing or modifying basic G-code or using CAM software. Operating the machine • Monitor the cutting/shaping process to ensure everything runs correctly and safely. • Make minor adjustments as needed during production. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Perform Set Ups and operation of 3,4, & 5 Axis CNC Mills, turning centers, and multi-axis machines. • Ability to use forethought and best machining practices to achieve optimal performance results within the allocated timeframe. • Experience with tight tolerance aerospace / defense and semi-conductor NPI machining with the ability to hold tolerances of +/- .0002. • Must be able to maintain a 90% efficiency rate during set-up/operation, and scrap rate of less than 1%. • Read and follow job router, set-up sheet and work instructions and provide feedback to improve process. • Maintain positive attitude even during stressful situations. • Measure and document as required inspection data to assure part compliance, utilizing mechanical methods, manual and automated CMMs. • Read and interpret blueprint dimensions, symbols, and notes. • Organize, clean, and maintain work area. • Communicate with Engineering on issues, needs, and improvements. • Build Fixtures to drawing requirements. • Setup, Prove-out and optimize process to minimize cycle-time and increase probability of success while communicating and working with other departments i.e.) Sales, Engineering, Quality, and Deburring/Finishing • Train Machine Operators if/when job is turned over to production. • Ability to work independently and identify issues, and problem solve in a productive timeframe. • Maintains focus on process improvement and reduction of cycle times while maintaining quality. • Ability to work required schedule. Qualifications/skills: • 10+ or more years setting up and operating CNC 3, 4, & 5 axis mills, turning centers and multi-axis machines • Attention to detail • Excellent knowledge of machine and controller functions • Excellent knowledge of machine tolerances • Commanding knowledge of GD&T and applications • Excellent mechanical skills • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints • Advanced mathematical and geometrical knowledge • Good communicator, ability to listen, ask questions, and provide solutions • Ability to work extra hours when needed • Self-Motivated • Positive attitude • Strong Work Ethic • Familiarity with AS9100 Standards • High school diploma / GED Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required stand for long periods of time, walk and reach.
