PREREQUISITES: High School education or equivalent, 2 years machinist both conventional and CNC training in a technical/trade school or 2 years on-the-job training or a combination of both. Prefer 8 years job experience in conventional and CNC machining. Ability to read and interpret detail blueprints. Must have ability to setup and operate both conventional and CNC machines. Die experience is a plus. Must have own tools. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Determines appropriate fixture and CNC program to use for job. • Download appropriate program to machine. • Indicates fixtures into proper position. • Machines parts to print tolerances • Removes part from fixture. • Checks part for print tolerances. • Carries part to Quality Department for inspection. • Runs balance of required parts, checking every 10th part, using measuring instruments. • Breaks down set-up after completion of parts run and places tooling in appropriate storage area. • May operate Bridgeport milling machine and manual lathe. • Cleans machine as required. • Deburrs parts. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: CNC machines, engine lathe, lathes, milling machines (horizontal and vertical), drill press, surface grinders, horizontal boring mill. Dial calipers, scales, protractors, square sets, dividers, hammers, punches, screw drivers, wrenches, tool box, 1-2-3 blocks vices, chisels, hack saw, scribe, tap and die handles, feeler gauge, wire pliers, precision square, all types of parallels, personal protective equipment (PPE). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Lifts 50 lbs maximum and/or frequently lifts or carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs. • Stands 80% of day. • Sits 15% of day. • Walks 5% of day. • Lifts and carries parts from pallet to machine. • Carries parts from Machine Shop to Quality Department. • Pushes and pulls parts into place on machine. • Pulls pallet jack. • Stoops to lift parts from pallet • Reaches for parts and to program machine. • Handles and grasps tools and parts. • Fingers calipers and other measuring equipment when checking parts and when using keyboard for programming. • Listens for changing speeds of machines and for contact of part with machine. • Listens for any unusual sounds of machines, which would indicate faulty operation of machine. • Close vision required for reading dial indicators and machine indicators, when placing and checking parts and to read monitor. • Depth perception required to correctly position parts in machine and to determine if machining operation is correct. • Observes machine in operation to detect malfunction. • Visual accommodation required when reading blueprints and when adjusting machine. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works inside 100%; is exposed to noise when operating machines. Worker is exposed to metal dust and shavings. Exposed to moving, mechanical parts of machines.
