Manual Machinist III - 2nd shift

POSITION DETAILS Position Summary Set up and operate manual lathes/mills to perform a variety of machining operations per engineering drawings to meet daily production requirements. Provide solutions in the absence of standard tooling. Work in a team-oriented environment to meet quality and efficiency goals. Work in a 6S manufacturing environment and be committed to workplace safety. Principal Activities • Review the work order requirements and drawings, obtain fixtures and tools for preparation. • Set up and operate manual lathes/mills to perform a variety of machining operations per engineering drawings to meet daily production requirements to trace complex profiles requiring changes in set-up, speeds, feeds and tool angles. • Set up and operate manual lathes/mills to perform a variety of machining operations i.e. perform single point threading per engineering drawings to meet daily production requirements • Use manual tools to debur and degrease. • Set-up and/or operate various drill presses, punch press involving drilling, taping, reaming, countersinking. • Use jigs and fixtures, block or shim parts to level and align the irregular shaped parts. • Check for concentricity, formed sections, steps or shoulder to close +/- tolerances of 0.001" or less for faulty operation or defective material. • Improvise machine set-up to perform non-standard type of work. • Provide solutions in the absence of standard work holding devices and tooling. • Rework quality issues into acceptable standards. • Train entry level machinist. • Report any problems or difficulties to the supervisor. • Maintain work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly condition & 6S. • Following safety procedures and policies. • Perform other work-related duties as assigned. • Work with tooling vendors/MEs to optimize tooling. Candidate Requirements Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Advanced knowledge of G codes and M codes • Able to read complex drawings and blueprints, calculate or determine dimensions not given. i.e. true position, datum points, etc. • Able to work independently and do own set-ups. • Able to use measuring equipment, including CMM, optical comparator etc. • Data input skills / computer skills. • Advanced PLC knowledge of controller to edit, write, trouble shoot programs. • Knowledge of operating manual secondary equipment, drill press, saw, punch press, etc. • Have the advanced knowledge to hold tolerance +/- 0.0001. • Advanced knowledge of various metals to optimize tooling to OEM specifications. • Advanced mathematical ability. • Proficiency in problem solving and trouble shooting skills • Lifting up to 50lbs • EHS awareness. • Flexibility in shift times. • Flexibility in working overtime. Maintain and check dimensions to blue prints and sketches using a variety of precision measuring instruments. Improvise machine set-up to perform non-standard type of work. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • 2~ 5 years of experience in machining • Able to set up and operate CNC machine • Understand of G codes and M codes • Able to read drawings and blueprints, calculate or determine dimensions not given. • Able to work independently. • Able to use measuring equipment, including caliber, micrometers, checking gauge etc. • Data input skills / computer skills. • PLC knowledge of controller to be able to edit programs. • Knowledge of operating manual secondary equipment, drill press, saw, punch press, etc. • Able to operate lathes and/or mills • Knowledge of turning, facing and boring to hold tolerances +/- 0.001. • Lifting up to 50lbs • EHS awareness • Flexibility in shift times. • Flexibility in working overtime. Education • HS Diploma/GED or equivalent • Associate's / Technical Degree (two years) is preferred. CNC Operator / Machinist

The expectation of Machinist / CNC operator is to produce high precision parts to drawing specifications utilizing machine tools and hand tools. The machinist will have an established knowledge of machine shop practices and experience operating CNC and manual equipment found in a machine shop environment. The machinist will report to the machine shop manager or shift supervisor. Minimum Requirements: • 2 year technical degree, trade school training or apprenticeship program in a mechanical discipline or tool and die making. • 5 years of recent history operating manual machine tools. • 2 years of recent history operating CNC machine tools. Preferably HAAS equipment. • Ability to read and comprehend drawings prints. • Set-up a machining task and produce quality precision parts efficiently. • Ability to inspect close tolerance part features using gage blocks, indicators, bore gage etc. • Working knowledge of the metric dimensioning. • Understand fixture set-ups and ability to create fixtures as needed. • Ability to operate and input data into PC. • Experience in machining various materials i.e., aluminum, steel, stainless steel, tool steel, engineered plastics. • Ability to contribute to driving process improvements. • Personal tools such as Allen wrenches, basic wrenches, calipers, indicator, edge finder, micrometers, surface gage, etc.
