CNC Machinist / Programmer FL

Description: CNC Programmer Reports To: Production Manager Location: Sarasota, Fl. No relocation assistance FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Function & Responsibility Plans numerical control program to control contour path machining of high vacuum components on automatic machine tools. Independently sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and/or numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate high vacuum components. Requirements: Primary Responsibilities: • Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of parts to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates. • Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. • Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines the sequence of operations required to machine part. • Writes instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide the setup and operation of the machine. • Writes program of machine instructions in symbolic language to direct numerical control database to regulate the movement of machine along cutting path. • Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure the accuracy of machine instructions. • Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. • Observe the operation of a machine on a trial run to prove taped or programmed instructions. • Provides work leadership to lower-level machinists and operators. • Possess comprehensive knowledge of machining practices, measurement and evaluation skills, and tooling applications. • Ensures machinery, tools, and equipment are in good working order, solves quality problems, performs data collection, monitors progress, and product control as identified. • Complete machine setups on a wide variety of specialized and production equipment. Make required adjustments to equipment or programming to maintain compliance with quality standards. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required where applicable. • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. • Use, knowledge of measuring tools (dial calipers, ID gauge, thread gauges, height gauges, etc). • Collaborates with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems. • Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to work with team members. • Ability to take direction from supervisor. • Ability to keep required job schedules. • Ability to focus attention on details. CNC Machinist - Afternoons

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Set-up, maintain and operate machine shop equipment, machine tools, including our jig boring machine, manual mill, lathe and surface grinder. • Produce quality components to Engineering drawings and sketches. • Work to acceptable production and quality standards. • Adhere to Health & Safety policies, quality procedures and job specific work instructions. • Follow written and verbal instructions from Lead Hand and Management. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: • Grade 12 or equivalent • Knowledge of standard Machine Shop practices. • Able to read mechanical blueprints and use standard measuring tools (i.e. vernier or dial calipers, micrometer, height gauge and bore gauges). Experience: • 3 years Machine shop experience. • Haas CNC machine as asset • Grinding experience an asset Specific Skill Ability and Knowledge: • Capable of safely operating all Machine Shop tools and equipment including cranes and tow motor. • Able to complete process checks & inspection for quality and accuracy based upon engineering specifications. • Able to effectively communicate to Lead Hands and Supervisors on problems relating to production, scrap, tooling, and equipment. • Capable of setting up, identifying, and replacing cutting tools. • Capable of troubleshooting process and tooling problems including communication of root cause findings. • Assist with tool studies, process development and product or process improvements.
