CNC Machinist

Machinists take ownership of their steps in the production process and are entrusted with striving for continual improvement. Machinist II

Job Summary Responsible for operating various machine tools to produce parts. Duties/Responsibilities • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders. • Efficiently and accurately produce parts to include determining appropriate machine tools to use; calculating where to cut or bore; determining how fast or slow workpiece is fed into machine; determining how much material to remove; selecting tools and materials for the job; planning the sequence of cutting and finishing operations; monitoring and controlling feed rate and speed; ensuring workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled; and regulating temperature of workpiece. • Set up, adjust, or operate specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations. • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers. • Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job. • Replace dull cutting tools. • Use manual and computer-controlled machinery to include writing and modifying programs. • Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools or power tools to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed. • Install repaired parts into equipment or install and/or move existing equipment. • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment to include complying with OSHA standards and maintaining equipment to applicable code. • Provide information to supervisors and co-workers on a timely basis. • Continually identify, develop, and implement improvements in work processes. • Consistently and effectively serve as a positive role model by living Sheridan's core values. • Perform other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications • Associate's degree in related field required or combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of related experience required. • Knowledge of arithmetic and structure and content of the English language to include the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition required. • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. • Ability to operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders. • Ability to consistently and effectively work independently with little or no direction and follow up to complete assignments required. • Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job including an understanding of work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials to perform the job required. • Ability to consistently and effectively complete work and required paperwork thoroughly, accurately, and neatly following established processes and procedures required. • Ability to consistently and effectively demonstrate initiative and creativity; teamwork and cooperation; and adhere to and comply with all company and environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and work rules required. • Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required. • Prompt and reliable attendance required. Working Conditions Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Position requires ability to move with ease in the production area; remain in stationary position for prolonged periods of time on concrete/hard surface; use hands and fingers constantly for handling, gripping, and manipulating product; constantly position oneself to complete work including bending, twisting, rotating, and reaching; and move product weighing up to 100 pounds.
