Key Responsibilities: • Operate and Program CNC Horizontal Boring Bar: Set up, operate, and program Kuraki CNC Horizontal Boring Bar to machine large steel structures, forgings, castings, weldments, and plates with precision. • Complex Setup and Optimization: Independently set up complex jobs, including large part alignment using blocks, shims, parallels, wedges, clamps, etc., and assemble appropriate cutting tools (tool holders, chucks, collets, drills, taps, reamers, mills, facing, and boring tools) to maximize efficiency and maintain tight tolerances. • Blueprint and Process Interpretation: Review manufacturing documents, job travelers, and blueprints to determine operation sequences, work holding requirements, and machining instructions. • Precision Machining & Quality Assurance: Perform close-tolerance operations (facing, boring, counterboring, drilling, tapping, etc.) on large structural weldments, castings, and forgings; inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (verniers, calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.) to ensure they meet stringent quality standards. • Material Handling: Safely use jib and overhead cranes to load and unload large workpieces from the machine; assist in unloading, deburring, and cleaning processed parts. • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve machining challenges, troubleshoot machine and program issues, and implement effective solutions. • Continuous Improvement & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work area; strictly adhere to safety and inspection requirements; identify and implement innovative solutions to improve processes and reduce costs. Ideal Candidate: • Proven Experience: 3+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience (preferably in a job shop environment) with at least 2 years programming/operating CNC horizontal boring bars; Kuraki machine experience highly preferred. • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, close-tolerance boring/milling, and large part machining processes. • Skilled Operator: Demonstrated ability to set up, program, assemble and index cutting tools, and utilize a variety of measuring instruments. • Problem-Solver & Prioritization: Strong problem-solving and prioritization skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently. • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and comfortable working with advanced CAD/CAM software, tooling, and fixturing systems. • Collaborative & Detail-Oriented: A team player with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all work performed.
