CNC Machinist

James Tool Machine and Engineering is located in Morganton NC. Job Summary: A Candidate for this position must be able to read and interpret blueprints. The Candidate must also be skilled in creating CNC programs, setting the part up and running the part to attain repeatability and cycle time. This position must perform test runs and make adjustments until the resulting product meets blueprint specifications. Candidates that tend to be successful in this position are adaptable to a Job Shop environment; hands-on management style; are task and results oriented; and able to work and communicate with people at all levels from shop floor to top management. This is a detail-oriented position that requires a candidate that has considerable planning, judgment, and the ability to work independently while driving continuous improvement and optimization is all day-to-day activities. Schedule: M-F 6:30am - 3:30pm SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITES: A CNC Machinist is responsible for a variety of machine specific functions-from setting-up equipment, loading material, optimizing efficiency, maintaining machines, performing first piece, and quality checks. Duties And Responsibilities • Operating numerical control machines to perform various functions such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces • Machine production parts by operating and setting up equipment such as CNC Lathes and CNC Mills using existing tooling and/or fixtures. • Demonstrates skill in operating manual machines • Maintain proper lubrication and fluid levels to insure safe and efficient machine operation. • Remove scrap metal from machines necessary to maintain safe and efficient machine operation. • Report equipment or tooling malfunctions to appropriate contact within facility. • Inspect own work-in-process with accepted procedures. • Loads, saves, and uploads program offsets • Make adjustments to tool and work offsets as necessary to maintain product quality. • Follow all safety rules and regulations. • Trains other employees is area(s) of expertise • Perform monthly and quarterly preventative maintenance tasks with assistance from maintenance team as needed and when required. • Maintain a clean and organized workstation. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings. • Familiarity with GD&T nomenclature. • Perform other duties as required. Education And Experience • High School Graduate or equivalent. • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a CNC Machinist and/or has demonstrated certain skills and product knowledge. • Capable of determining start and end points of angles by using a working and demonstrated knowledge of trigonometry and geometry. • Capable of reading micrometers, dial calipers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring devices. • Base knowledge of speed and feed calculation based on material to be machined. • Base knowledge of proper tooling selection based on material to be machined. • Basic computer knowledge and ability to use basic functions of MS Outlook and Word to complete job tasks Required Skills And Abilities • Experience in a manufacturing environment. • Familiarity and experience with precision measuring tools. • Good mechanical aptitude required. • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently, write by hand and keyboard, and operate small measurement devices. • Ability to stand 8 hours per shift. • Visual acuity needed for close detail work, microscope inspection, operating tools and machinery, using measurement devices and visual inspection involving small defects and parts • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with peers, engineers, and supervisors the needs, opportunities, and issues on machines and production parts. Inspect parts at designated intervals according to operator instructions, taking appropriate actions based on measurements.
