Job Summary The Machinist and Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for overseeing manufacturing processes, focusing on optimizing efficiency, minimizing material waste, and ensuring that production meets specified quality requirements. This position will manage all primary production activities, capital, and process development projects, and provide excellent technical knowledge. Full budgetary responsibility for the machining department is required, along with driving continuous improvement principles. Roles and Responsibilities • Designs, tests, implements, and maintains production systems to deliver products on time meeting quality requirements and calculated costs. • Drives continuous improvement measures in production quality, run times, process improvement, and machine availability. • Executes validation plans to ensure robust technical solutions. • Provides technical suggestions for new processes. • Ensures proper flow of inventory through multiple processes. • Develops and maintains project plans and budget profiles. • Analyzes and improves material usage. • Identifies opportunities to improve production processes. • Participates in the NCR process and performs root cause analyses. • Contributes to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing strategies. • Supports the planning of vision, strategy, guidelines, processes, and procedures to improve operational performance. • Implements strategies to develop technical skills within the production team. • Manages and leads the department, including staffing, recruitment, training, development, and disciplinary matters. • Motivates and coaches the team to achieve operational success. • Ensures associates understand department targets/KPIs and are responsible for tracking of the department targets/KPIs. • Builds, maintains, and engages in productive relationships with internal and key stakeholders through effective liaison and negotiation. • Communicates with stakeholders on the impact of market changes on manufacturing. • Recommends solutions without compromising quality or service. • Collaborates professionally with other departments, suppliers, and service providers. • Supports and implements Weller guidelines and policies. • Maintains relevant quality standards. • Complies with all safety guidelines. • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, preferred or high school diploma with equivalent experience, required. • 5+ years of project management experience. • 5+ years leadership experience. • 5-10 years’ professional experience in a machining / manufacturing environment. • Prior experience in inventory management, preferred. • Remanufacturing experience a bonus but not required. • Experience with CAD and programming required. • Experience in lean manufacturing techniques. • Must possess an Entrepreneurial Spirit. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities • Ability to lead a team of 15-20 associates. • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of organization. • Ability to anticipate and overcome obstacles. • Demonstrates confident and clear thinking. • Able to learn new product types. • Ability to develop relationships and work professionally with associates and managers at all levels of the organization. • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills. • Demonstrates a deep knowledge of the overall departmental function. • Ability to understand budgets and profit and loss statements. • Ability to work well under pressure. Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods of standing may be required. • Must be able to sit for periods of time at a desk and perform computer work. • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs. • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times. • Must be able to be an active listener and able to communicate for prolonged periods of time. Perform data collection and communication tasks in Job Boss and other applications. 5. Perform operator maintenance. 6. Diagnose and correct equipment or tool issues. 7. Perform de-burr or rework of work in-process. 8. Make recommendations to optimize and improve assigned processes. 9. Maintain work station to 5S standards. 10. Perform all work according to PAC safety standards. 11. Comply with all PAC policy and procedures. Qualifications 1. Solid track record of employment success. Successful work experience setting up and operating CNC controlled equipment to produce metal parts. 2. Firm understanding of machining center theory, including x, y and z axis, along with edge and centerline pickup. 3. Ability to use common measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges (pin, thread, indicator, height), optical comparators and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). 4. Significant collaboration and communication skills related to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. 5. Blueprint reading skills to GD&T standards. 6. High school diploma or equivalent.
