Journeyman Machinist

Pioneer Motor Bearing Company provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end users with first-class bearing engineering, manufacturing, and repair expertise. Summary of Job: Wage ranges based by shifts and skill level. Day Shift (Tues - Fri, 10 hours) = $22.00 to $32.00 2nd Shift (Mon - Thurs, 10 hours) = $26.00 to $35.00 Weekend Shift (Fri - Mon, 10 hours) = $28.00 to $35.00 The Machinist is responsible for machining operations required to manufacture and repair (re-manufacture) fluid film bearings, seals, and “contract machining” in a designated department in Pioneer Motor Bearing Company’s facility in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Responsibilities • Manufacture and inspect detailed parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings, and verbal instructions using a variety of machining tools and equipment ( mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, jig bores, and other machining equipment) • Ability to use mathematical and geometrical calculations. • Determine how to set up machines based on instructions received and perform minor equipment repairs. • Responsible for keeping the work area clean and free from safety hazards and maintaining acceptable quality and efficiency levels. • Must be able to utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., vernier calipers, micrometers, surface gauges, dial indicators) to maintain dimensional accuracy and specified tolerances during machining operations Qualifications • Technical degree from a trade school or community college; or 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and company, customer, and governmental specifications and regulations. • Familiar with Okuma, Hyundai, Bullard VTL, Fanuc, and other machine tools • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and co-workers. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and machining operations relevant to a company manufacturing and repairing fluid film bearings. • General knowledge of machining processes (including cutting fluids, surface finishes and tolerances, turning, drilling, milling, and abrasive processes.) • General familiarity with materials (steels, nonferrous metals, and alloys). • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical drawings. • Military Experience a Plus. At Kings Mountain, this position will play a key role in supporting and contributing to the high-quality production processes that meet the needs of our diverse customer base. This position will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. Responsibilities • Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary • Maintains inventory of completed products • Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs • Maintains a safe and clean workstation • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed Machinist Qualifications/Skills • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety • Solid written and verbal communication skills • Proficient in math • Basic computer skills • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks • Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements: • High school degree or equivalent • Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly • Working knowledge of safety protocols • Actively participate in root cause analysis (RCA) to identify, document, and address recurring failures or inefficiencies. Collaborate with engineers, operators, and production leadership to implement sustainable solutions. • Communicate any equipment malfunctions, or production delays to supervisors in a timely manner to minimize disruptions in workflow. • Dedicate time and effort to self-development through training programs. Actively engage in on-the-job learning and formal training opportunities, both domestically and internationally. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior electricians to foster team growth and skills development. • Take part in ongoing training and skill development initiatives to improve welding techniques and stay up to date with industry best practices. Education, Skills, and Experience • Technical School/Apprenticeship Graduate (associate's degree in electrical engineering or related field preferred). • Certification in specialized areas such as robotics or CNC systems is highly desirable. • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems and equipment, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting. • In-depth knowledge of industrial safety protocols, including OSHA regulations, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and environmental compliance. • Extensive experience with electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of complex machinery, including robotics, CNC machines, and automated systems. • Strong communication skills with the ability to document repairs, create reports, and manage inventories. Physical Requirements • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods. Work Environment • Comfortable working in a noisy, fast-paced manufacturing environment with fluctuating temperatures.
