Machinist - Rotating Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY Performs machining on rotating equipment components and various items throughout the refinery. Possible to perform field machining on flanges or base plates in the field. Must be willing and able to perform millwright work on rotating equipment as well. Routine maintenance performs various functions so if you are a master machinist, you would need to be willing to learn to be a millwright and perform rotating equipment troubleshooting, PM’s, repairs, and overhauls. Diverse work tasks will be given daily depending on work schedule and urgent needs of the refinery. The work will occur in the field and a shop environment. You are required to be on-call on a rotating basis for call out coverage. This job is part of the current union contract bargaining agreement. You will be expected to follow all safety policies and mechanical procedures. The current work schedule is a 4-10 Monday through Thursday. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, and vision of the organization. Responsibilities: • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the required dimensions and tolerances of machined parts • Collaborate closely with machine repair teams to optimize the efficient production of essential machined parts, utilizing manual machining tools for timely machine repairs • Perform routine maintenance on manual machines to ensure optimal performance and longevity. • Use precision measuring instruments such as callipers, micrometres, and gauges to verify dimensions • Responsible for maintaining an organized and up-to-date inventory of specially machined parts essential for machine repair • Perform tip and die repair of production tooling as needed • Responsible for the installation and support of all capital projects as deemed necessary • Support other Plant Engineering department activities • Adhere to all AmerCable’s Safety Standards and Safe Work Practices • Follows and abides by Code of Ethics and Business Conduct Standards Skills preferred include: • High school diploma or GED • Must have formal training or apprenticeship in machining • Must have proven experience operating manual machine tools in a manufacturing or machining environment • Must be proficient in TIG, MIG and ARC welding • Must be able to obtain state boiler license • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, both verbally and in writing • Good reading comprehension • Ability to work extended hours as needed, including weekends and holidays • Must be able to work in a non-climate controlled environment • Required to work at heights above ground level • Must be able to operate a forklift • Must be able to physically move material, possibly up to 50lbs AmerCable is an equal opportunity employer. About the position Responsibilities • Rotate through various job responsibilities and tasks within your assigned workspace on an hourly basis. • Responsible for safely operating industrial machinery. • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve production goals. • Maintaining a commitment to quality throughout the production process. • Conduct routine inspections of machinery to identify any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction, reporting findings to supervisors and maintenance for preventive action. • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.
