About the position Responsibilities • Operate and maintain manufacturing machines in the MEEN 361 lab class. • Demonstrate basic machining operations such as turning, facing, drilling, taper turning, and milling. • Perform set-ups of machine tools and troubleshoot process issues with minimal supervision. • Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks as per manufacturer requirements. • Support a clean and safe work environment by following housekeeping schedules and safety protocols. Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Four years of related experience in machining or a similar field. • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. • Ability to perform mathematical computations and read engineering drawings and sketches. • Experience operating and maintaining multi-axis CNC mills, manual lathes, and manual mills. As the Tool & Die Maker, here’s the work you’ll do: • Sets up, operates, adjusts and repairs the variety of shop machine tools, performs fitting, timing, assembling and calibrating operation; works to tolerances of .0001 of an inch and finishes as required. • Works from drawings, sketches, written specifications and verbal instructions. • Works with a variety of materials as aluminum, brass, bronze, iron, steel, various plastics and a variety of alloys. • Plans, lays out and constructs new tools, dies, fixtures and gauges. • Disassembles broken or worn tools, dies and gauges, to determine which parts must be replaced; lays out and forms new parts, using discarded parts as patterns; reshapes and refinishes work tools, fixtures and dies. • Follows training when work requires collecting, transporting, storing, treating, disposing and/or otherwise handling of hazardous waste and its related documentation. Responsible for cleaning up work area.
